Hey all,

I’ve been working on this current project for a while now. I’ve finished modelling all of the parts, my assembly is finished and I’m onto the ‘presenting’ stage. I have an explosion of the assembly and I would like to render it as an image.

I want the highest rendering quality possible at a fairly high resolution. I don’t mind if I have to leave my computer rendering for a few hours, in fact, I’d even be willing to install rendering plugins if that is required. At the end of the day, I just want a really good quality, classy looking render.

So my question is: how would I go about doing this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I need to know how to render explosions and how to achieve a high standard of quality in that render.

Thank you all very much in advance!

PS: I’m using Autodesk Inventor Pro 2016

<STRIKE></STRIKE>I assume you are in an *.ipn. but you don't specifically state this.

Do you need the trails?

If not, I would abandon the *.ipn effort and use Inventor Studio instead.

Hi!

Saddly you can't use studio for ipj files, but You can use "ray tracing" mode to achieve nice results.

Tip: Maybe add the reflections and shadows and change the background to white.

You might try creating an "Explosion" position rep in your iam and then using Studio to render that position rep.

Yes, I am working with a .ipn file.

And yes, I could re-explode the assembly (.iam) in Inventor Studio and then render it that way. I'll admit that would work, I just find the prospect of having to redo the explosion somewhat annoying.

Thank you for the advice nonetheless!

I've done this before and really liked the results until I realised how low-res the final image was. Am I overlooking something? Is there some way to achieve high-resolution images using this technique?

Thank you for the advice.

If you really don't mind getting a fantastic image you can use Showcase as well since it is part of your Design Suite. You can bring the Inventor model right in, but you would essentially redo your explosion here. The quality of these images can be very high end and most of what is in Inventor has come down from the Showcase product anyway. You just get more options there.

Once you have Showcase installed, attached is a nice little set of shortcuts to get you started...

And here are some sample showcase images... (disclaimer, these are not my models)

Awesome! Thank you very much for telling my about this.

Whilst those examples do look pretty good, and I will indeed use Showcase, I wonder what results one could get through using Cinema 4D. If I do have time to try it out I'll post some pictures of the results below.

Thank you to everyone who posted advice!
