File highlight in Vault tree behaviour change from 2014 to 2016

Not sure if this is a Vault or Inventor issue. I recently upgraded from 2014 to 2016. 1 of the first workflow changes I noticed is the change in behaviour in part highlighting in the Vault tree in Inventor 2016. 2014 allowed me to pick a part/assy in the model window and switch to the Vault tab and see which file I was dealing with. I could then pick other part/assy models and the highlighted Vault tree file was changed to the selected one/s. I used this workflow to see files I needed to checkout for changing.

With 2016 this workflow is not as streamlined. If I select a part/assy file and then switch to the Vault tree the node is not shown (highlighted). I have to toggle back to the Model tree and then back to the Vault tree for the highlight to be made. Seems like a simple modification to my workflow but it increases the clicks and the time.

Hi Brendan,
I’ve used the same workflow for years – very useful indeed for large assemblies.

I did not notice any change in the workflow, and for me, it still works the same way as it did in 2014.

What Inventor won't do, is highlight the sub-assy node when going from one browser to the other if a part (or parts) in an expanded sub-assy is selected in one browser, and the corresponding sub-assy node is not expanded already in the other browser, but then again, Inventor 2014 wouldn't do that either. (Such capability would be useful, but it's not there yet)

I don't have a macro for toggle/quick switching between the browsers, so I use the two-click method for swithching: drop-down the arrow on top of the browser and select the browsers from there.

Just wondering if what you're seeing could be caused by your fast macro...
Try using the normal controls for switching between Model and Vault browsers and see if the problem persists.

Thanks for your input Daniel.

The custom code makes no difference. I tried it with the usual switch and it's the same. This problem is a real workflow and time killer for me. I've been using this workflow since first Vault install (2008?) and it just works. Something is broken, maybe in my 2016 install. I'll run a repair and see if it fixes it.

I recently switched from 2014 to 2015. Some issue with that version.

It looks like a conscious change if it is not fixed in 2016... realy sucks from my point of view :S
