Inventor 2016 and Excel 2013 issue

I am having a problem with Inventor Professional 2016 and Excel 2013 communicating. I keep getting the errors shown in the attached document. I have reinstalled Excel, reinstalled Inventor, did every fix I could find on the interwebs and it still does the same thing. Any ideas. All software is up to date.

Try this:

Exit Inventor.
Select the Windows start button and type command prompt in the search field (do not hit enter)
When command prompt appears in the list, right mouse click on it and select run as adminstrator.
Navigate to C:\program files\Autodesk\Inventor <version>\bin
Type Inventor /install
Wait a few minutes and then restart Inventor

I gave it a whirl, still does the same thing, if I click through all the cancels I can still work on the document but this error keeps popping up.

This seems to be the issue, Inventor is opening hundreds of instances of excel when saving the file for some reason. Any ideas?

First..

Have you ever used the Windows snippit tool?

There is no need to paste a picture into a word document.. You can just attach the image here.. and the snipping tool in windows is great for grabbing quick screen shots..

second..

Have you restarted your computer after trying that fix posted above? (that should get all the extra instances of excel closed so they aren't causing a problem)

maybe try the reset utility..

Inventor needs to be installed AFTER Excel has been installed and Excel needs to be opened to register it properly again prior to installing Inventor..

are you a local admin on your computer? (aka have full permissions to write to the registry,etc...)

I (as well as MANY others) have no problems with Inv 2016 and Excel 2013.. So something in general is not right with your computer.. (obviously duh..)

fifth.

is the version of excel you have a full blown excel (non-cloud/non-starter/non-office 365 version)?

Have you tried something like creating a threaded hole? Does that work?

"supposedly" as of Inventor 2016 Service Pack 1 ... excel isn't even needed anymore..

Have you installed service pack 1?

Does this happen for everything file you do with holes, or just this one?

I'm wondering if it's an issue with that assembly, vs an Excel issue.

What's happens if you try to rebuild all ...

Hi, Snichols,

We have similar issues with Inventor 2016 and Excel 2013. We have iLogic communicating with Excel spreadsheet using GoExcel(...) such as:

iin_tank_ht=GoExcel.CellValue("tank_data.xls", "General", "in_tank_ht")
itank_wall_thk=GoExcel.CellValue("tank_data.xls", "General", "tank_wall_thk")
itank_flge=GoExcel.CellValue("tank_data.xls", "General", "tk_flge_size")
InventorVb.DocumentUpdate()

These iLogic rules are in every part and sub-assembly, and they are called by a VB.NET add to run. They use to work very well under Inventor 2013 and Excel 2003. The data communication silently on the background. But after we move to Inventor 2016 and Excel 2013, when running the iLogic rules sequentially, the Excel interface keep pop-up and close and pop-up and close and pop-up...Look like every GoExcel to cause Excel to open and show and hide. Eventually, it causes the program to crash.

How do you solve your problem? Maybe it will be a good reference for our case.

I notice that @snichols also has some ilogic code in his assembly..

Would it be possible to post a small iam file that has that ilogic code in it?

Note you also need to include any ipt and any sub iam files as iam files only link to the files and do not include them in itself..

Also have you updated Inv 2016 to the latest service pack? and maybe r2/r3 if you are on subscription?

In our program, iLogic in every part and assembly does not link each other, every iLogic rule only reads data from spreadsheet as my last post. And this pop-up issue only happen for a particular computer. It is no problem with other workstation with same setup (windows 7 pro sp1 64, Intel Xeon W3565, 3.2Gh, 24G RAM, ATI FirePRO V5800 -1G).

We install the Inventor 2016 sp1 with R2.

I wonder whether it is due to some sensitivity that Excel 2013 switches from multiple-document interface (MDI) of previous version to single-document interface (SDI) only.

Really puzzling!

I have been struggling with this same problem for many months now. Last night I had an epiphany.

Remove all customization from Excel. - ribbon, macros, quick access toolbar etc.

Now open Inventor, and open I-parts, I-assemblies as usual, change members/ thread size.

Excel - triggered by Inventor - will now open and close.

Not leaving multiple instances open.

I have since started adding my customizations back into Excel. then restarting Inventor and repeating my tasks. but now I cannot recreate the error.

so it is fixed.

But I'm a little confused as to the actual cause.
