hi i have scanned a mould of a hand grip and need to split it and cut away a slot for it to sit in, the model is too big for the mesh converter. any help would be appreciated to make this a solid body.

I am using Inventor 2024 and have access to 3dmax if needed. thanks

Hi

There are several possibilities:

Convert mesh to solid in Fusion 360 (attached)

FreeForm modeling in Inventor or Fusion 360 based on a mesh

Mesh-based parametric modeling

The last two methods are modeling a new object when using the mesh as a visual reference.

It all depends on what quality model you want to get.

The best method (in my opinion):
1) download Mesh Enabler and make sure it is loaded under Tools > add-ins: https://apps.autodesk.com/INVNTOR/en/Detail/Index?id=6950391119076900441&appLang=en&os=Win64
2) open the OBJ file from Inventor (or drag it from Windows File Explorer and drop over an Inventor instance/window);
3) convert the mesh feature into solid (cannot attach the result because it's over 40 MB);

4) delete the mesh feature afterward;

5) create your split and hole as required.
