Extruding/cutting Offset from Surface

Comming from solidworks this was somthing I use often and am woundering how we go about it in Inventor?

Any help would be great.

Have attached a SW file and a Pic to help explane what I would like to do.

You can also use the Emboss tool for this, attached is a quick example file done in Inventor 2015.

This does seem to do what im looking to do. Just seems like a lot of work compaired to the way I can do it on solidworks.

It's not as much as it looks. The first steps were needed for deleting your existing cut.

And watch the difference to Curtis' way of doing. Curtis is embossing in one direction, the other one is orthogonal offset to the existing surface.

Both versions make sense and can be used, depending on the needs.

Hi Jaime,

I believe Extrude Offset Start has been available since 2017 or 2018. In more recent releases, the workflow has been changed slightly. You need to pick the starting face (default to Sketch).

Hi, I know but this is not for offset start. This is to leave a "x.xxx" dimension gap offset from any surface without having to first measure the depth vertex or the distance between surfaces to know the value you need to enter to leave that gap. With this method even if you change the reference surface depth value, the gap will keep it's offset value from the surface. I hope you can understand, I'm not very good with english.

One of the most useful features. If you have to calculate the offset, it does not update for every size/ configuration (the way SolidWorks does- how I miss it!)
