topic Export a sheet metal “flat pattern” into a 3D solid? in Inventor Forum

Is there a way to export a sheet metal “flat pattern” into a 3D solid, whether it be an .ipt, .stp, .igs, or something else? I know I can generate a drawing view of the flat pattern, export the drawing view to a .dxf or .dwg file, and then extrude that. However, I’d like to know if there’s a way of doing it without going to all that trouble.

Hi!

you can export flat pattern as SAT. It's a solid and you can open again in inventor. It's not associative with the file. If you make a change in the model, you have to create a new SAT (like you have to do with the dxf).
