Inventor 2013 - Saving files with dots in filename

Having an unusual issue when saving files with dot notation to represent our version control on the product.

eg. part01.001.002.stl

When I go to where the file is saved its saved as part01.stl. We would like to keep the file name notation as above when creating parts.

There is a free add-in avaiable in the Autodesk App Store that allows you to create number schemes to define a file name. This may work for what you are looking to do.

Works just fine in 2016..

I just saved a part as test.001.001.stl and it shows the same in Windows explorer..

Have you loaded all updates/service packs for your version of Inventor?

Are you including the .stl extension in the file name field of the save dialog box?

Are you using "save copy as" or "Export" or the "3d printer stuff"

It appears only when creating a part or assembly but only happens when creating a brand new part item.

So if saving a new part file .ipt and starting with part.001.ipt it will save but drop the .001 notation for the first time. Then subsequent file saving format will recognise the .001.ipt saving notation.

So as an example

Step 1: Starting new Part and saving as part.001.ipt. The output file name is part.ipt.

Step 2: Then if modifying and saving it as part.002.ipt the out file is correct eg part.002.ipt

So is there a setting or way to allow saving the file with the needed notation from the first instance of part modification. eg part.001.ipt?
