Jalousie in assembly

I wonder if it´s possible to make a jalousie in Inventor and also let it follow a bend curve. I also want to simulate the movement in an assembly.

My plan is to make the jalousie as one plastic part with allot of pre-bends.

My basic example is made of an extrude and a pattern. I tried pattern on "curve lenght" with orientation "Direction 1" with no progress.

yes , is possible.

As multiple parts, this must be made in an assembly to have something sililar as real conditions.

In a part you can also do it as a array following the curve.

In both cases, you must have some serious inventor skills.

I tried the array/pattern function in a part as I mentioned with no progress. Do you have any hint how I should make this part? Should I start with a surface?!? Any idea is welcome.

23 year with 3d-cad and 5 year Inventor but have not tried this features.

Can you post here the model?

Obviously, is not just one array... it will takes everal work features and parameters varying along the process.

Sorry Carlos. I don´t have any model since I try to make one. I have so far tried these two concepts:

1. to make a surface with "project surface--wrap to surface" and thicken command. Worked but will be instabil near endpoints

2. loft. I made a section on a surface which I can controll with a measure. Made a patch. I pattern the patch along my curved lined in the specified lenght. I then made a loft, two patch and the curve as rail but it want work.

Can you find an image to something similar on the internet?

I doubt I would use Surface modeling or Loft feature in this design.

I would make the model essentially identical to the real world.

You should at least be able to model in a static position before even considering advancing to kinematics.

I suspect once you figure out how to do a static model that Arc Length and Arc Radius (driven) dimensions along with curve driven pattern will be important to your solution. But these are advanced topics. First let's see your image of similar design and your static model attempt at the design.

I have attached an example how I wish my design should looks like. I want the jalousie to follow the curve in sketch4. I suppose "workplane 1" can be a copy of a driven plane in the assembly so I can control the movement.

Hi!

You have to think about to things:

One: how the inventor is gonna give movement to the assembly?
Two:How it will be, the movement?

Create a part (Path.ipt) with a path (sketch + Surface), with a work point. Pattern the work point along the line with a variable (Let's call it "Move").
Constrain the first jalousie part with the work point. As the point moves, the part follows. Constraint all trhe other parts to the first one.

Also give a constraint between the part and the surface (Must be "Transitional" Constraint). Then, vary the constraints and the system will move.
You can do this in Assembly environment, or in studio environment.

Tip: create construction elements and surfaces to help constraint the part with the path points and for transitional constraint.

Do you think its possible to make the jalousie as one part insted?

Hi!

Doing this in only a part, is possible, but without the dinamic movement:

In part Level: You can test the part along the line, and then mannually edit the sketch along the arc. (You can have transitional constrains only in the assembly)

In The assembly level: too complicated constrains to have in a adaptative part, so it will fail a lot.

Therefore, if you want movement, the better is to have it in assembly, with several parts, even simulating that is only a part.

Hi!

Here is an example near what you seek (simulating only one flexible part, but in the end are several parts).

I leave the parts free, so you can drag mannually to test.

If you want to make it "automatic", mate the axis from the first element with the point from the path. Open the iLogic Browser, go to forms, open the form and drag the ruler to put the point in movement.

WARNING: dont make abrupt movements or the system will be a mess. offcourse you can rearrange it with free move and free rotate to reposition the parts, or simply make some undos.

You have to download all the files in the same folder, and open the assembly in Inventor.
