rotate (orbit) is shift key + middle mouse button

pan is simply hold down middle mouse button

Hi,

Inventor pro 2016.
I am many years a Rhino3D user and will be using both Rhino and Inventor. I need mouse same for both else will go mad. It is about speed ,time is money, and I will end up in a total mess in both programs.

Rhino is hold down right mouse button and move mouse for 3D rotation, moving mouse to right rotates anticlockwise, and hold down shift and right mouse button to pan. Move mouse to right moves object to right across screen.

Centre Wheel scroll fwd to zoom into the object.

I have fixed the zoom as that went outwards !, (Options>Display>reverseDirection)

How can I set Inventor up to do the rotating and panning ?

I realise right mouse button gives a menu on screen and moving mouse rotates through that, so I need to set scroll wheel click down to be the right mouse button instead for that function.

DBenz

Why not get a 3d Connexion Space Ball/Mouse ....

you won't need to program anything again and you can use it in both...

program the keys on the spaceball for Rhino and for Inventor.

You'll never need to roll the center wheel again.

Hi,

I have a simple two button mouse with scroll wheel and bought a box of them as its a long story but its the only mouse I can use with a gel wrist rest which I must use,..., its a G100s Logitech and the result of a lengthy comms with Logitech finding a suitable mouse for Win7 to replace the MBJ58 Logitech that was the ONLY mouse that worked under XP with my speed setting. They saw the problem, and solved it.

I guess I need to explain...as there was a time when I was completely floored with what Msoft admitted was their doing, when Win 2K came along I plugged in my Msoft ball mouse, set speed to 9/10 as always and was gutted by the lines that looked like a set of stairs that it drew. They made mice no longer draw dead smooth lines at whatever the mouse speed was set to, I use 1.5 inch of mouse mat and a gel wrist rest so fore/aft movement is not much (zero with most larger ergonomic mice) and with increasing mouse speed to 9/10 I can go up/down and all over screen with hardly any wrist movement and for aft distance, without all this mouse slapping the average user in offices with Office as their only prog, do ! Try finding a traditional standard length mouse. The G100s is worth its weight in gold to me. I can do the most detailed work and draw in photoshop with a mouse. I can even draw with my eyes closed with it !

so how do I set up Inventor to a standard two button scroll wheelmouse configuration as needed ? Other mice are not an option..period !

DBenz

Are you aware that the 3D Connexion device is used in the left hand along with a mouse in the right hand?

Ambitious manipulation. Kind of like having the actual part (or entire machine - think bionic arm) in your hands.

They say it takes 1/2 of the work from your right hand.

All I know is I have a tough time working when I don't have mine with me.

Another vote for a 3d controller..

You can pick up the space navigator for under $100 (used/ebay,etc...) I got mine for $49 barely used for my home computer..

As you said "time is money" and I can work circles around anyone with just a regular mouse vs me and my 3d controller..

I use the space pilot at work but barely use anything other than a few buttons (set alt to constraint and thats about it) on it so IMO space navigator is really all one needs with the 2 buttons it has..But I'm sure others might use more

Hi,

No chance whatsoever of having to hold something in left hand like that for 14 hrs a day,

I need to rest my arm and wrist on something, that will see my arm floating in space and after a while that will ache, I started off with a desk just in front of me in windows 3.1 days and by end of the day my arm and shoulder hurt so much, then set up an L shaped desk and rested right arm on that and the relief. oh boy ! Also with no gel under wrist I wore through the nerve sheaths and now hand goes numb on solid surfaces after 20 mins. Employers at fault.

a) I would need a table at left and gel etc. no space for that at all.

b) when I am on the laptop in the living room in front of TV, so as to work in the evenings and get some other mental stimulus in and save on heating bills, there is no where I can have a table at left, as laptop is off to right on a small circular table so I can get in and out of chair.

If there is no way another button can be allocated to the right click function then that could be end of Inventor, thats just so wrong, I shall have to try and mix button usage between CAD progs, thats very bad practice. I am forever right click moving and causing problems already.

DBenz

Hopefully you have looked into and practice proper ergonomic best practices and mandated routine/frequent "rest/stretch" procedures into your daily life..

Can you change Rhinos mouse functions to be more inline with Inventor?

One should expect differences in programs and luckily humans adapt quickly..

It sounds like there are reasons you can't/won't do the simple thing and buy a 3d controller to go with your mouse.

There is no way to do what you want in Inventor.

You might explore re-mapping your mouse buttons in the driver. Most mouse software allows you to make changes, and some of them will allow different mappings per applications.

Take a look at Mircosoft's help page: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/help/support/how-to/mouse/reassign-buttons

Logitech: http://support.logitech.com/en_us/article/26862

I used to use this: http://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/XMouseButtonControl.htm back in the XP64 days to control my VerticalMouse.

Have you tried a VerticalMouse? I found it made a big difference.

If I am able to create a profile with my Logitech G100S and set the scroll button click to be seen as right mouse button then I can call up the menu with the scroll button,

just what mouse button does Inventor look for activation on for rotating in 3d space ?

I need to set that command to the right mouse button when held down.

Also what input does Inventor look for for a pan command ?

I will then need to visit the mouse properties and select the profile called Inventor every time I maximise inventor, and revisit it again for when in photoshop or any other program.

Maybe I can have the mouse driver recognise such visits, doubt it though.

cant get through to Logitech as pressing the option number sees nothing happen, for any of them, sales, tech, anything.

Not having a good time !

DBenz
