topic scale same on file conversion in Inventor Forum

In Inventor 2016,,,I saved a file as an stl file. I have units in inches. When I measure the file in fusion 360 it is showing .20 inch instead of the correct 2 inch. The scale seems to change when saving to stl. Is there an adjustment for this?

David

Can you attach the files here?

Did you click Options and set your save units the same as the document units?

Why would you want an stl file for Fusion 360?

so Inventor document units are in inches..

What units did you select for the stl options during the save copy as process? (the options button next to save)

What units are you using in fusion (think its preferences--default units --design)

stl files are unitless and thus you need to ensure both systems are setup to export/import to the proper units..

Really sounds to me like you have some mm/cm going on there..

There was also a bug in fusion at one time.. suspect its been addressed but not sure..

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/design-validate-document/why-are-fusion-dimensions-10x-greater-on-imported-stl-files/td-p/5439722

Out of curiosity why are you even using Fusion when you have Inventor?

Hey Thanks..options box for save,,worked,, changed units there, I use fusion to do measurement checks after file conversions. Make sure scale is correct.

Also use free 3D Tool program to measure stl file units.

Kudos and thanks

Don't you notice scale issues in your 3d printer software bed preview?

No matter.. glad you got it sorted..
