Changes to IPN part visibility not updating in Drawing Views

I have a drawing with multiple views of an IPN.

The IPN has multiple Views of the same .IAM with different visibilities.

I add a component to the .IAM that is needed in only 1 view, so I turn off visibility of the component in all other views in the .IPN.

When I open my drawing file, the new component still shows up in all Drawing Views, even though it is not visible in the .IPN views.

I have tried Updating All Sheets, etc, but the only solutions I have found are:

1. Re-Create the view or

2. Drill down in the drawing sidebar of the .IPN and manually right-click and turn off visibility of the component.

Both take quite a bit of time, when I simply want to add 1 component to a single view.

Why aren't my .IPN changes updating in my already created Drawing Views?

Ed,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. One technique that can help control the visibility of the assembly is to use Design View Reps. You could try to clear the associativity or set it up to help control the visibility of the components. Otherwise, you could create and lock the design view reps in the assembly and use those to control the IPN and IDW. As Pete mentioned using design view or LOD's (Level of Detail) would help you avoid what you encountered. These option can be found right off when you state to take the file you want the presentation created from, see image below.

You can set the relationship for existing explosions by right click on them and selecting the Representation option.

Thank you for the feedback.

It sounds like I cannot use the IPN visibility as I intended, due to this bug.

I will have to either re-create the views or use LoD to turn items on/off.

Hi Ed,

Is the Associative option of drawing view checked? If check the associative option, the drawing views will update if change the visibility or appearance of views in IPN. Could you please double check on that?

I am having the same issue. I went through all of the steps outlined above, but nothing helps, other than recreating the view. Also the View list is grayed. I cannot change the view source once created:

If you are on IV2017, changes have been made to the IPN environment. It now creates "snapshots" and any changes to the model require the "snapshot" to be refreshed.

The new version allows for multiple "snapshots" to be taken allowing for you to use each snapshot. You do need to select which snapshot you want to use.

In a nut shell, open the IPN, in the Snapshot Views window, click the blue refresh icon in the upper RH corner of the snapshot view to refresh. This should then refresh allow the drawing to update. Make sure your main model view is positioned how you want the "snapshot", then click "refresh".

This is a carry over from the Inventor Publisher software that allows for "snapshots".

I have already tried that approach, and the drawing view does not update. The only fix I have found is to recreate the view.

Hi s.mccarthy,

It's old presentation behavior for many years that once the drawing view is created, view source cannot be changed.
We fixed some update issues in Inventor 2017 R2 release. If the snapshot view is correctly selected and Associative option is checked, the drawing view will update when there's change made in snapshot view.

Thanks for the reply. As I indicated previously, the associativity is enabled. The drawing view still does not update when changes are made. The only workflow that functions correctly is to create a new snapshot and recreate the view.

Thanks for reply. I mean Inventor 2017 R2 Update will be released very soon in early of August, which we fixed the issues that drawing did not update in some cases. Please have a try with R2 Update when it is available.

I was having the same issue as the initial user (Ed). I'm using Inventor 2018.2.3 and I was able to refresh an existing snapshot and have it update an IPN-based drawing view. The drawing view was based on an IPN representation and I couldn't edit the drawing view's source in the drawing view edit menu. But once I changed the snapshot, it did update the drawing view.

It still would be really nice to be able to switch snapshots of an existing presentation-based drawing view. Sure it's possible it would make an annotation mess, but I can deal with that. There have been times when I started with the wrong one and had to delete it and start again, when many of the annotation details were the same.

Since you can have and "unlimited" number of Snapshots, you can re-play the animation and pause it to take a snapshot of the required view. It may not be the best solution for your needs.

It's an improvement in an area of Inventor that's remained for most part unchanged since it was added over 12 years ago.

That's what I do, and it still doesn't update the view in the IDW. I created a new view and now it is working again as expected, as shown in your video above. The view I deleted/replaced must have had some setting that was preventing this? Or... there was some bug or data missing in the Inventor software for that particular view?

Like stated above, this issue happens sometimes and the only fix seems to be replacing the view. That can be a real pain sometimes when you have to replace all annotations, sketches, balloons on said view.
