Hi all, for one way or another in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2017\Textures I seem to be missing some default .jpg files in the /surfaces folder, it's likely the same has occured in the 'bumpmaps' folder.

I'm not sure how this has happened as this is a recent install of INV2017 after a random IT scheduled maintenance ruined my INV2016 on my workstation... It's entirely possible this has something to do with it, anyways besides the point.

Rather than me having to do an uninstall and fresh install of INV2017 and reconfigure it again (I don't have the time), I was wondering is someone could please make all the default files available for me to download so I can manually pop them back to where they should be.

So if anyone could please provide a location or can upload all the files from C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2017\Textures for me to try and do this quick fix, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks

If you have access to the IV2017 download then you can find the textures in the directory where the installer resides:
<driveletter>:\PRDSU_2017_Enu_Win_64bit_dlm\x64\Components\IVV2017\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\IVV 2017\Textures

Ok, so I was able to access a pack of default surfaces image files and it turns out none were missing from INV2017, maybe some have been removed since INV2016? Or it may be another issue...

It seems to be only with some (still alot) appearances in the 'autodesk appearance library' and even then it seems to be a problem with linking to the surface image.

Not sure what setting I don't have right, but I've attached some images to help solve my problem.

Can't say i see anything wrong with your settings...

How is your project set up? maybe you're using an appearance library that references an old location?

Also check if your project is using the correct design data under the "folder options".

(set to "default" it should use the path from the application options.)

The appearance with the error in your image is a document image, what happens if you update the styles in your document?

("update" styles is on the "manage" tab in your part)

The only reason I have .jpg files in there is because that's what is called out to be missing. So I copied the .bmp files and changed their extensions to .jpg

In the same folder is the original .bmp files. The .bmp files make no difference.

It is part of the "Autodesk appearances" and references a different location for the textures, see screenshot:

@Anonymous did you ever get a solution to this? I'm seeing this with one of my customers with a default Inventor 2017 installation. When you hover over the error, it doesn't display the path of the missing file. Instead it just displays the file name of the missing file. Bloody weird. I've tried all sorts to fix it. Their setup and folder structures are the same as mine on my machine. The exact same textures are in each folder. But on theirs Inventor can't find the textures.

It seems to have removed many of the texture files from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Materials\Textures.

I copied the missing files from another system here but Inventor still can't seem to link to them automatically. I fixed the link manually but when I tried to send the effected parts to the Vault I get error messages that it couldn't find the missing texture files and canceled the transfer.

Regards,

Steve Smith

This was my fix and there is most likely a better solution. I am working in 2018 IV and it was looking for .png files.

Application Options File

Texture Folder - C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2018\Textures

Inside that folder has a file named surfaces. Not only are they .bmp the names don't all match the images different appearance images are looking for.

 C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Materials\Textures

This then has folders 1, 2, and 3 each with a Mats Folder. These images have the correct names and are .png.

I made a folder holding all of these images from all 3 of the Mats folders with no duplicated names. (Just a folder on my desktop)

I then took all these images and placed them into the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2017\Textures.

Then tested and worked for me.
