Try the rotate option in Move Bodies command.

http://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2014/ENU/?guid=GUID-F4A7724F-860D-4542-B321-A73D9610FCB9

You should be able to roate the new part with respect to the fixed origin geometry as required. If the new part is constrained with its origin geometry in upper level assemblies, you may have to suppress the Move node in the browser after your FEA is complete.

I have tried looking for the answer to this and have not found one so please forgive me if this has been posted before.

Can you change the orientation of the X, Y, Z axis'? using Inventor 2015

I ask because of this...

I have 2 models both *.ipt I have an older model and I have a newer version (2.0 Beta) of the same model if you will. I want to run a side by side comparison FEA of the 2 parts, need to make sure the new version holds up just as well as the previous version. However, each model was created with the Axis in different orientation. So when I print out my Analysis comparison they do not line up "side by side" since the Axis are different.

Is it even possible to change the Axis?

I know I can save the *.ipt as *.iam and "place" the parts so that they are in the proper orientation based on Axis. This will work for what I want it to do but I would still like to know if I can change the Axis themselves.

Thank you in advance

Hi!

Change Origin planes and axes is not possible (Thank god!!)

Workaround:

You can change the cube orientation, and i believe this will change the part position in your report (because it does the same in the drawings, not tested)

Place your model in the direction you want front view (or top View).

Then in the cube, rigth mouse button and select "Set this view as Fornt (or Top)

Tips:

Sometimes we have to do more then one change to acomplish what we need

In the end, after you have your report, you can reset this tweek to have the original

Note:

This will also changes position in the drawings

Advise:

Next time, take a few seconds to position the first sketch correctly... you will save some headaches 🙂

Also....

I believe this will not change the position views in a existent report, you have to do create a new one (the same goes with the drawings)

Thank you for the reply. But this does not fix the report. The view cube orients the part but the forces applied to the part in the FEA are based on X, Y, Z so my force comparisons do not align as the report is printed out based on X,Y,Z (so one report says my X,X stress is 400MPa while the other report has my X,X stress at 84MPa because the orientation of the parts are off). As I posted earlier I can fix this orientation of the Axis by making these parts as a single part assembly.

If i drew these parts they would be on the same plane. All of mine are Z as up. Cheers, and many thanks

No... that "forces" question, will not change, as i said, origin axes doesnt change, with this tweek you will only the views scheme.

Now you have two options:

Remodel the part, or

Move/Rotate the solid from the second part to mach the planes as the first one.

And of course, you have to correct some things in your analisys

You can use the Move Bodies command to rotate the part into the position you want.

You will, however, mess up any drawing views that may have been created with the part in its original location.

Hi, in Part file (ipt) you can rotate body or bodies together by the "Direct" (Direct Edit) tool.

You can move and rotate the body in any direction.
