1. This was the first thing I checked. It is not read-only, and all the rest of the files I'm using in the same directory were savable without problem, so it is not a question of directory privilege, either.

2. The project was created in Inventor Pro 2015, and did not exist two weeks ago. The file in question had been created mere hours before the problem occurred. To the best of my knowledge, no project file exists at all. Nothing has been put in the Vault, and at no time have I ever used check-in/check-out.

So I remain perplexed.

I've gotten that mysterious "problem encountered saving the document" error again. I enclose a screen shot of what happens when I do a "save". But if I try "Save As", planning to save it as a different name, I get the message before I even get the file name dialog. Huh? How could I have problems doing a "Save As" when I haven't even told it where to save? "Save as copy" has the same problem. I found this weird. I also found it weird that the yellow color I had applied earlier had turned back to "As Feature". Out of curiosity, I tried changing the color. As soon as I clicked on "Properties", I got the message shown in the other screen shot. It says that the file is not checked out to me. Huh? I am the sole owner of the directory involved, and I do not use checkin/checkout facilities. I created the file a few hours ago, saved it, incorporated it into an assembly successfully, and, as I was shutting things down, did a "Save All" with the mysterious "the" document. Since I was shutting the program down, I closed successive tabs, one at a time, until one of them failed. Specifically, the "mounting ear" that I had created earlier. This makes little or no sense to me.

I am using Inventor Professional 2015 under Windows 7. The file is stored in the cloud, as are all the hundreds of other files in all my dozens of Inventor projects, for the last six months or so, on Microsoft OneDrive. I have been creating and editing these files without any problem, including the dozen or so I was working on last night. Several questions arise:

What caused this?

How do I get around it?

Why do I get a completely incomprehensible error message under a save, and a detailed error message when I try to change the color of a face?

Is there any cause/effect relationship between the detailed error message (which is completely wrong) and the obscure error message (which should not happen either)

@Anonymous

2 things that I would check...

1. In Windows Explorer, check the file attributes (right mouse click on the file and select properties). Is it set to read-only?

2. Check to make sure you are using the correct project file. Make sure its not set to some old/legacy project file that allowed check in/out capabilities.
