Hi

I don't think this can be done in the generator itself.

You can open the part file and create a new model state with the expected length parameter. Search for the parameter(s) responsible for the total length and match it(s) to the expected variant.

In the drawing, you can both insert a base view in the selected model state and create an overlay view with such variants.

I created a compression spring in Spring Generator for a Ball Plunger that is sealed up inside the assembly at minimum load. I need to create a drawing showing the compression spring in a unloaded, loose spring length for manufacturing but cannot figure out how.

Placing a view of the spring always yields the spring length when under load as it is in assembly (at .243" length). The loose spring length is .3125"

How do you create a CAD model & view of the loose spring using Spring Generator?

Here is one of the ways to get it done. IV2020 file format.
It is jus a random spring. But for the spring made with Spring Generator - the same approach can be used.

Cheers,

Could you utilize model states. Place 2 instances of the spring (1 loaded and 1 unloaded). Then create the appropriate model state and choose which spring is to be in which state. Then you can place that spring into an upper level assembly. Now, repeat and make the model states there showing which version to use. Please see the video for the concept.

Hi Gary,

Yes, it does. The spring was part of the assembly. There is a d3 parameter (controls the diameter of the spring in relationship to the cups) from Part 1, which is referenced by d0 parameter in the Spring.ipt.
In this sample I have removed that link.
Cheers,
