Mate & Angle constraint

In order to stop WASHER rotates I tried to Mate origin plane with washer plane but it didn’t work but Angle constraint stopped washer rotation. What is reason for that?

This washer already has two mate constrain to correctly position it with Conic Coupler surface.

What are the references you have used?
If you put between the shaft and the washer, it is possible that the shaft can rotate.

because it may not be perfectly on the same plane height etc .. I don't have the model to say 100% ..but I'm betting:

You also already have mate constraints, so it would only want you to do the Angle, or it would consider it over-constrained/conflicting if something changed, and you'd then have to go back and delete or suppress the bad /corrupt constraints.

As you learn more and more about constraints, you'll learn what is needed where ...and why.

Either you didn't pick the right "solution" option in the mate constraint or the washer/whole assembly is not perfectly centered about the origin..

Post your iam (and ipt) files if you can't figure it out..

The mate constraint "should" work assuming everything is centered about the origin planes and you picked the right solution option for the mate constraint.

From what I can see you only need a single "insert" constraint to position that washer instead of 2 mate constraints..

Then if you do want to lock its rotation you can use a mate constraint from origin plane to origin plane..

Or you could use joints and only need to apply 1 joint to place and lock its rotation..

I do not what you mean by “references”.

Shaft is not intended to rotate. You can see the shape of the shaft. And it is grounded as well.

In IAM file is there any way to find out “perfect”?

I tried both the MATE and FLUSH but it didn’t work.

lock its rotation you can use a mate constraint from origin plane

Instead of 2 mate constraints single "insert" constraint is okay. But still MATE constrain is not working to lock washer’s rotation.

I didn’t try joints because my concern is trying to find out why MATE constrain is not working.

Philosophical question: Why are you learning Inventor?

If mere words and pretty pictures were all that is needed it define geometry problems, why would CAD software even be needed?

I'm sure its very easy to figure out why its not working..

But if you can't figure it out then as stated post your assembly and parts here..

Its a super simple reason I'm sure..

This could have been resolved by the multiple options given ...

it's a simple task that is being blown out of proportion. Share the model, or just leave it so spin ...

You're making it harder on yourself...and over complicating things

I have an alternative solution. Fixing is not a problem. But I wish to know why this particular option is not working.

Did you use Origin Planes to Mate?

Or did you use sides of key and keyway to mate?

Are the sizes of the key and keyway identical width?

If answer is no, and you use sides to mate - will the workplanes be lined up?

Or will the sides of the part be mated against each other on one side with clearance on the other side?
