Make comments in Model Tree

When you collaborate with others or just make parts with lots of users it would help alot to be able to make comments inside your models.

Commented parts/ assemblies/ Sketchers /Extrudes etc. gets a symbol that you can hover with mousepointer to read.

This is already available. Look for the Create Note menu item when you right-click anything in the browser.

I wonder if the Engineering Notebook functionality could be enhanced a bit to show a simple indicator on a browser line, and hovering over it would show just the comment(s) from that entry in the Engineering Notebook. In fact, once you uncover the notes under a browser line, hovering already does that. So all that's really needed is a visual indicator that there are notes attached.

What you're suggesting is exactly the way Excel handles comments, and I like that ability and use it.

If you create an idea in the Inventor Ideas forum and provide a link in this thread, I would support it.

I've used that on my assembly to share queries in class with tutor and others. Now I don't know how to switch off its visibilty.

@Anonymous You can't.. You can delete the notes but there is no method that I've seen to "hide" them from the model display window..

You can't turn them off individually on a per-file basis, but you can turn the icons off globally through Application Options. Seems to act a little screwy though - I had to switch View Representations or close and reopen the file before it would actually update the graphics and clear out the icons (same thing for bringing them back).

Application Options - Notebook tab - uncheck "Note icons"

In the IPT files, we change/edit the names of Features to items that infer content. Rather than "Hole-1", we would edit the feature label to "Inlet 3/8"MNPT".

A great number of our inlet and outlet features for various control valves use pre-determined colors for the control lines. We even change the color in the feature properties for these ports to match with our color standards. This way when we are using the T & P module to route our control lines. We know which color line will go to which port.
