3Dconnexion problems

Hi All,

Is anyone using the latest software download from 3DCONNEXION with a Space Navigator?

I just downloaded it and installed but can't get Inventor 2017 to recognise it!

Anyone know what to do?

Well, at the risk of offending I have to ask, "Did you reboot your computer after installing the new driver?"

Check your Add-ins Manager, is it Loaded?

Yep, rebooted and checked the add-in and all is well. I'm assuming that the 3DConnexion software should pick up on Inventor if it's loaded, but it doesn't. Seems to default to this:-

Any ideas?

Oh man, I was regretting installing this new driver for a moment.

I think there is a bug in it.

With Inventor file open, open the 3D Connexion control panel.

On my machine it shows the wrong program (just as you show).

Restore Down Inventor and the 3D Connexion control panel changes to Inventor focus.

All is well.

I tried in SolidWorks, and Fusion 360 as well. Same behavior.

If you have two monitors and drag the 3D Connexion control panel onto second monitor - you can select program to change settings on the first monitor without doing the Restore Down.

The 3Dconnexion driver will recognize the program that is currently selected, not just running. If you click on the Inventor window, the driver will then display that.

The problem is that when I click on Inventor - the 3D Connexion control panel goes behind the Inventor screen.

It used to stay on top with older driver versions.

This isn't my first rodeo.

Which is what I already wrote.

I guess I could have written Minimize instead.

In any case this is an issue that never occurred in the past, and now 3 work-arounds have been given.

Restore Down the Inventor window (this has the effect of making Inventor the active component in the panel).

Minimize the Inventor window (this has the effect of making Inventor the active component in the panel).

Drag the 3D Connexion control panel to second monitor.

There is also a button on the mouse that will pop up the settings in front
of Inventor. It's on the left side of my space mouse.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the feedback, over come the problem now. Would be nice to have the option to select which program you wanted to make adjustments on, as for me, it wasn't clear that it was the active program it would work on and didn't help when it disappeared behind Inventor. Definitely helps using the dual screens!

Hello JD,

I have a problem with my 3D SpaceNavigator.

This morning when I have started Inventor, I realized that my 3D model rotates very slow. I have tried to uninstal 3D connexion driver and I have installed it again but still the same problem. Moving, rotating model is so slow.

I have checked that I have installed final drivers for 3D connexion and also final drivers for my NVIDIA M5000M Quadro Notebook Drivers:

NVIDIA: 375.63

3D CONNEXION: 3DxWare64_v10-4-7_r2465

My computer is on Windows 10x64 Pro and Inventor 2017.3 build 233

Video which describes a problem is in attachment.

Any help please???

Just curious, but what are your speed settings?

If you right-click on the tray icon and select "calibrate" does that improve anything?

Here is a screenshot of my settings. I always use the default settings. I have just tried calibration and still the same problem. Nothing has changed.

Here is something interesting that I realized. If I try to test via Cube C3D Demo test from connexion folder it works pretty good, but if I try it in Inventor, it is unbelievably slow.

Your screenshot shows the speed settings for Firefox, though if you always use the default i don't think the Inventor settings will be different...

Does increasing the (overall) speed on the first panel do anything at all in Inventor?

I'm on a driver a release earlier then you, v10.4.6, and IV 2016.
Maybe they changed things a bit, but if you can correct it by setting the speed higher then that should solve it.
(or was it faster before?)

Indeed, seems like it's only a little faster... not as much as i'd expect when changing the speed all the way up.

Is this only with this particular model, or with everything in Inventor?

I don't really know what it could be, i checked the release notes for the 3dconnexion driver and there isn't anything inventor related that got changed.
Did it move properly before? what changed since then?
It could even be windows updates or other background processes, when did you install the R3 update for inventor?

Calibrating didn't do anything, but maybe unplugging the device could help?

I'm just typing out my thoughts here now, you've got a strange problem...

Yes you are right, it is a little bit faster but it worked perfectly until this morning. It is the same case with assemblies, not just with parts.

As I remember, nothing has changed since yesterday. Inventor R3 has been updated ten days ago.

I have tried with unplug/plug the device but still the same. I have plugged device on another machine of my colleague and it works perfect.

There is something happened with my Inventor, I can't realize what.

I didn't watch the video(s), but try this.

Unplug the Navigator.

Hold down both buttons while you plug it back in.

Keep holding both buttons for about 15 seconds.

Now try it again.
