3D PDF ERROR !

Hi Guys,

Exporting as 3D PDF works fine with most of Assemblies.

But for some Assemblies, I am getting error as attached.

And stopped process with no outcome.

I think this is one of the issues that were reported with Inventor 2017 came out.. Not sure if it was repaired or not in SP1, but service pack 1 for Inventor 2017 is out. Have you installed that? Also if you're on an active subscription you can install the R2/SP1 version.

It's a know issue, and they are trying to get data set's to help resolve them..

If it's an assembly, it's usually a 1 or 2 parts doing it. I've had to work my way backwards to figure out which one it was.

Hey guys, I found a temporary solution, although not optimal.

It seems that inventor struggles to convert heavy assemblies with several layers. In addition, if you have several LOD's, View Reps, and adaptivity this adds to the complexity in producing a 3D PDF.

Anyway, I found that if you STEP out your model, then STEP it back in temporarily, producing a 3D PDF works right away. I know this breaks any conditions in your model (i.e. LODS, View Reps, Constraints) unfortunately this is what def works for me.

Anyway, give it try and see if you can live with it for now.

@Anonymous Have you loaded service pack 1 for Inventor 2017? (or R2 if you are a subscription customer)

The supposedly fixed most of the 3d PDF issues in that...

IF you have loaded SP1 and are still having problems then please let us know so that someone from Autodesk can get in touch with you to get a copy of the models that are failing so they can fix that..

@mcgyvr - I have Adesk Product Design Suite Ultimate through my company. Here's what my info on the release. is You may be right, no mention of a SP.

How would I go about retrieving the SP?

You do NOT have SP1 installed..

There are multiple ways to do that..

Its best to discuss this with your company/manager as they may have specific reasons/requirements but..

Do you use the Autodesk Desktop App to monitor/alert you to updates (I'm guessing thats a big no)

You can log into your subscription account or talk to your cad manager..

If you are on subscription you get R2 which includes SP1 and some updates/new functionality..

And in general you should ALWAYS be watching for updates to any piece of software you use..

Had you been doing that you probably wouldn't have had to waste your time with "workarounds"

@mcgyvr - thanks for the guidance. You're right. The SP1 worked real nice with no hiccups.
