topic 3D sketch lines constrained to a plane in Inventor Forum

Hi. Within a 3D sketch, how do I draw 2 separate lines (not joined) and ensure they are constrained on the same plane? I'm using INV 2016.

I see this is possible in INV 2017 using the 'on face' constraint command.

Use constraints, 3D sketch has them as well. You would use coincident between the line end point and the plane, and perpendicular between the lines and the plane.

Let me know if this solves your problem.

Thanks. Constraining end points to planes was the bit I was missing!

I am not able to constrain line end points to planes in 3D sketch. I am also not able to use the perpendicular (or parallel) constraint between a plane and a line in 3D sketch. If I select the plane, then the line, then the constraint, nothing happens. If I select the line then the constraint, Fusion won't let me select the plane. In fact it seems Fusion won't let me constrain anything to a plane in any way when using 3D sketch. Could you explain a bit more about what you mean or how this is possible? I would love to use the 3D sketch feature more but not being able to use planes as constraints is incredibly limiting. Thanks!

So I have! When troubleshooting I often have a few tabs open simultaneously and since all of the Autodesk forums are visually identical except for the program logo at the very top, I thought your response was in regards to Fusion 360. It doesn't help that Autodesk makes countless different CAD programs with similar functionality. I checked in the Fusion 360 forums and apparently, using plane constraints in 3D sketch in that program is still under development. It seems they are putting more resources into Inventor and their other popular programs at the moment.
