What version of Inventor are you using? In 2021.1, I can right click on the label and edit the text style. Any changes I make there immediately show up in the existing view labels, as well as any new ones I use. Is this the workflow you have tried?

I would like to change the format of the view label.

I created a new style (copied from ANSI), but when I click on the pencil icon (see attached), I am only able to edit the color, size, bold, etc... I can't change the font, or to center justification, etc...

Any help would be appreciated,

Your view label is using "Current-Ansi Big Text"

Go to the "object defaults" section of the style manager and find the "View/Scale Label" object and change the text style there..

Hi ToddPig,

If you right-click on your view label on the drawing, and choose Edit Text Style, it will take you directly to the style used by that label. There you can set the bold and justification options.

This is true of most things concerning styles in the drawing environment.

Hi ToddPig,

So to recap:

you created a new style,

next you would then select the existing view label

go to the Annotation tab

choose your new style from the style pull down

now you can right click on the label on the drawing and choose Edit Text style, and know that you're editing the correct style

in the text editor and make changes as needed

and then you would want to set the object defaults to always use this text style for your view labels.

Curtis,

As always, thanks for the feedback.

What I am trying to do (and I apologize for not using the correct terminology in my original post) is to have the view labels (detail and section) have their view label bold and center text alignment as part of my drawing template. I think this is how they were in INV 2015, but after the upgrade to INV 2017, all the view labels are no longer bold, and have left text alignment.

I click on the pencil to edit, and can only make the text bold, or italic, etc... but I can't make it center aligned, or change the font.

I would like to make this change in the template so I don't have to do it on every drawing (which I think is the "procedure" that has been provided)

Hi ToddPig,

You've created/modified a new Standard, but it's unclear to me if that is really what you wanted to do.

Standards are a collection of sub styles. Object Defaults are a sub style that dictates which other sub styles the Standard uses by default.

Here is a quick video that creates a new standards, then creates a new sub style (this one happens to be a text style), and then edits the Object Defaults sub style to set the View Label to always use the new text style by default.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis
http://inventortrenches.blogspot.com

See my post 2 again..

You only have specific things that you can change right in the specific view label section (pencil).. Justification is not one of those..

Justification must be changed in the actual text style.. Which for you is Current-Ansi Big Text

Go to the "text" section of the style and standards manager and find Current-Ansi Big Text and change its justification there..

Then all should be good..

Curtis,

Thanks for taking the time to make the video.

What I'm trying to do is create a drawing template that has all the settings/styles set-up so when I create a drawing I don't have to change the same things every time.
In Solidworks, I would open an existing template, make all the changes, then save it as a new template (in 2 different formats for some reason, but that is a discussion for the SW forum).
I would like to do something similar, but am only able to make a few changes, and not others. For example. I made changes to the revision table, my title block is importing iproperties from the ipt or iam file, but there are a few that I can't change. The section view label is one of them .

In your video above, am I supposed to add a part to my drawing, then set the style, then delete the part, then save the template?

I'll admit that I'm still confused with the relationship between Standards, Styles or Sub-styles, and Object Defaults. As always, your book is helping, and I'm getting closer (and making other changes that I didn't know I could), but I still have not figure out how to adjust the view label justification and font.

@ToddPig wrote:
Curtis,

Thanks for taking the time to make the video.

1) What I'm trying to do is create a drawing template that has all the settings/styles set-up so when I create a drawing I don't have to change the same things every time.

2) In your video above, am I supposed to add a part to my drawing, then set the style, then delete the part, then save the template?

3) I'll admit that I'm still confused with the relationship between Standards, Styles or Sub-styles, and Object Defaults. As always, your book is helping, and I'm getting closer (and making other changes that I didn't know I could), 4) but I still have not figure out how to adjust the view label justification and font.

Hi ToddPig,

1) making these changes to the template file is the correct method. Once that is done you can push those changes to a Styles Library, so that all existing drawings will update to use these new styles. But that's a step or 2 down the road from where you are now. I suspect the 2 different formats in Solidworks is something similar to the styles library in Inventor, but I don't know for sure as I didn't set those things up back when I used Solidworks (and that was a long while ago).

2) You only need to add a model view to the drawing if you are looking to pull in that custom iProperty into a drawing resource, such as a title block, see this link:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-general-discussion/ipt-custom-iproperties-to-idw-title-block/m-p/3796415#M462903

3) It always helped me to think of it like this

Standards: a collection of styles (i.e. a company standard)

Styles: a collection of settings (i.e. a dimension style)

Sub Styles: some styles are used in a setting of another style (dimension style "Shop Drawings" uses text style "Dim Text Arial 0.125 - Bold")

Object Defaults: a configuration list that sets the which style the standard uses by default ( i.e. there are 3 dims styles present, the object defaults ensures that one called "Shop Drawings" is the default one).

4) You'll do this by adjusting those things in a text style, and then set the view label Object Default to use that text style.

4a) Just saw the images you posted. I think you'll want to control the font, and justification in the Text style, and set the top line to be bold in the Standards > View Preferences, by using the Edit (pencil) button as you were doing previously.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis
http://inventortrenches.blogspot.com

Curtis,

I got the labels as I would like them to be. (see attached)

Even got the tangent line font to be different than outside edges.

I feel like it was more luck than skill to get the templates this way. I would prefer it to be more of the later.

I appreciate the time you are spending (we should be able to pay for this support instead of only giving a kudos), but I am still confused with the Standards/Styles relationship.

I have attached a Word document where I tried to visually show how everything is connected, but I couldn't figure out how to so the "sub-styles" or the "Object Defaults".

Can you also provide an example of how each of these would be used in a company? (A Real World Scenario as your book calls it)

Hi ToddPig,

So your word doc had the Object Defaults as I see them naturally, meaning that I don't see them as a "style", but Autodesk does.

As for the sub styles, I likely added some confusion here by misusing terms. In any case this is how the relationships work:

Styles just get consumed by other styles (including the object defaults "style")
