Changing, Importing, Exporting the Part List Style

I've probably asked this question before but here it is again: I created a parts list style that I will need to use from this point forward. I can't figure out how to get it from the current .IDW to all of my future ones. I made a copy and saved it. I saved it to the styles library and I can see the .styxml file so I think I have it right so far. I tried to import it into another but it doesn't work. What I can't seem to do is load it into my templates or import it into another .IDW that's already existing. What are my next steps?

If you did that, then open your template (or drawing you want to add the style to) and go to the style editor.

Make sure it's set to "all styles" in the top right corner, so you can see the styles that aren't in the document, right-click on the style you want to add and select "save in document".

Once it is saved in the document the "location" should say "both".

If you want to change an existing parts list to the new style, select it and on the "annote" tab change the style from the format dropdown list:

So I did that and it works if I change it to that style after inserting the parts list. Is there a way to default to this style? Also, under "In Use" and "Changes" it says NO. I'm assuming this has something to do with it. Does this need to be changed? If so, how? Thanks.

To set cut list as the "default" for parts list go to object defaults section on the right hand side and change to the one you need..

The object defaults are available through a couple places hence the extra highlight on the left hand side..

I still don't have this style available to me when starting a new .idw. Should the box for CUT LIST be checked? If I access the .IDW template directly it shows the parts list style in question. Do I need to save it to the style library from here? Forgive the elementary questions but I don't want to screw up the library styles.

I did that. When I open a new document through Inventor I don't have this style to choose from.

If you do all these steps in your templates directly they should be available in new documents.

You need to open your template in the directory it resides, not start a new drawing, add the style and change it in the object defaults.

Or, if you do start a new drawing, change it and "save copy as template".

I figured it out. I needed to save the style to the style library while in the template. What a big pain in the a$$ this whole thing has been. I wish this process wasn't so daunting. This is probably why I haven't changed any of my styles in so long. Thank you!
