Gud Evening! Plzz help me, Working on AutoCAD 2016. Backup files are created in the same folder & the value of ISAVEBACK is set to 1, but the problem is that backup file is nor saving in (bak.) format. it saving in Notpad format. Now how can i do the drawing backup will save in (bak.) format?? plz send me solutions. Thanks

This is not the AutoCAD forum.. This is the Autodesk Inventor forum. 2 different type of CAD application.

If you rename <drawing>.bak to <drawing>.dwg then you should be able to open it. In addition (unless its a large drawing file).. You can open any AutoCAD drawing in notepad. Years ago that's what you did when you wanted to determine what version of AutoCAD was used to create or last save that drawing.

Are you saying that because if you double click on it then it opens in notepad or that the extension is .txt and not .bak?

Post an image showing the files in windows explorer showing the extensions..

I suspect this is simple a program association thing (bak extension is set to open in notepad) and not that they are actually saving in a text file extension..

thanks for reply, Now i attach the screen shot. Before its working good you
can see it in the picture named "BEFORE", Earlier i was able to open it by
changing the name as bak. to dwg. But now i don't know why every drawing in
my computer is saving its backup file in the format of this unknown format,
as you can see the 2nd picture named "NOW" pictures as i attached.
Please give me solution for this.

I don't see any attached pictures, I've never seen an option in ACAD to change the setting for the backup file extension.
