Is there a reason you would not use the 2017 tutorials?

In Inventor 2017: Get Started tab > Tutorials. Under Type, select Available Tutorials

But yes I don't know why they wouldn't just use all 2017 stuff.. Except looking at it now the 2017 stuff seems to be severely lacking compared to prior versions from what I see.. Just 19 tutorials that don't really apply to basics/learning from the start..

The "learning path" is ok but need to be installed,etc.. which would stop me immediately from going that direction as a new user.. There is NO information presented on how to load the local help,etc..

I'm just presented with an error page with no direction..

Hi mcgyvr,

Oh, I was thinking that the tutorials were more than just the Inventor files.

I found the Guided Tutorial download for 2016:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/inventor-2016-guided-tutorials.html?v=2016

Can't find the same for 2017.

Maybe @jeanie.wayker can help us locate them, and can get your feedback concerning the 2017 Learning Path to someone who can help.

Hi all,

I had to read this thread from top to bottom to get a handle on what is being discussed. Here's my take on the issues:

Prior to 2017, new users could access the Learning Path tutorials with no download. That hasn't changed in 2017. For additional tutorials, we provided a download site which had a list of self-extracting files with no thumbnails or any info on what you would learn in the tutorial. The old style (pre-2017) tutorials were powered by xml files. In 2017 we switched to json files.

We do have the ability to convert old tutorials you created to the new json format, so please reach out to me if you need help with any conversions. The tutorials that were available on the download site are in the process of being updated and republished in the new format, so there is no need to convert those. If there are some previously available tutorials that are not published yet that you need now, let us know so we can prioritize.

In 2017 we introduced a new delivery system for the guided tutorials along with the new engine. Publicly shared tutorials simply appear in the Available Tutorials area of the gallery the minute they go live, so check back often! There is rich descriptive text when you mouse over an image and you can also search the tutorials in the gallery with keywords. For example, if you search for contour flange, you will see that the command is used in Sheet Metal 3.

And in 2017 R3 that just went live, we turned on the authoring tool!

That means that anyone can now create and share tutorials publicly or privately. The mechanism is very similar to how Screencast works. Click Create Tutorials to begin the process and to view the two how to videos embedded in the tutorial anatomy page that appears. There are also some helpful hints for authors located here:

http://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-03AA0761-0FBC-4772-8C09-6AA74C48CAA3

And last but not least, if you can't run the tutorials (i.e. DesktopConnect error), let us know so we can resolve the issue!

Let us know what you think!

Thanks,

Paul

Hi McGyvr,

I am concerned that you got that error trying to play the "Get Started with Sketches" video from the Learning Path. When you get a chance, would you please let me know the version of Inventor 2017 you are using?
I do not see this problem with Inventor 2017 R3 that was released November 7, 2016.
Thanks much,

Hi,

I know this thread is a bit old but it describes exactly the problem I am having. I have Windows 10, use chrome as a browser, using Inventor 2017 Professional. I am new to Inventor. The Learning Path guided tutorials are fine but only cover the basics. There are only 21 other available tutorials in English. I need access to more advanced tutorials like Tube and Pipe in particular. In Inventor 2017 help these more advanced tutorials are listed in the Tutorial Archive section under the Tutorials button. All these tutorials link to 2014 help. If these guided tutorials are in xml rather than json and won't function in 2017, why are they listed? And more importantly how do I access and use these tutorials because I need to use tube and pipe for my job?

Is there some kind of work around? Please help!

Is there some kind of work around? Please help!

Good luck.. Good "tutorials" from Autodesk just aren't out there IMO..

And for tube/pipe and cable/harness your offerings are slim to none..

You might want to check out youtube or contact your Autodesk reseller to see if they offer classes,etc...

The 2014 stuff is probably the best you are going to get.. and thats not saying much..

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2014/ENU/Inventor/files/GUID-C68BB356-A00F-4775-9913-9D429DDD690E-htm.html

You can get the datasets here.. Which you can open in 2017 just fine and follow along with the help page link I just posted..

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/ENU/123112/files/inventor-2014-tutorials-html.html

I "think" Autodesk expected users would populate the "tutorials" for them or something.. Paul seems to be trying but...... well.. one man show and all just isn't cutting it..

Greetings.

The reason we have a link to the 2014 tutorials is because not all tutorials have been converted to the new guided tutorial format and the information they contain is still helpful.

The old tutorials consist of text and images on a web page and a downloaded dataset. They are not interactive and do not run in-product (do not use xml or jsom files and run in a panel).

Tube and pipe and many of the unconverted ones are in the backlog for conversion. Sounds like Cable & Harness and Tube & Pipe should be moved to the top of the To Do list.

Thanks,

Paul

Thanks for your reply,

I feel a bit foolish now. I started with the data set download page and after downloading I kept looking for the tutorials to be available in the tutorials window. If I would have paid a little more attention while in 2014 help and clicked one page down it would have been obvious how they worked.

Derp.

That's it. If anyone can create lots of Guided Tutorials, quality will go down the river.

I've liked the former tutorials, available in 2015 and earlier versions.

2015 type tutorials can still be accessed, after some settings.
