Limit fasteners choice to "already in-use" (Place-From-Vault basic search issue)

Recently I've got an interesting question.

Designer claimed to be annoyed that standard Content Center does not contain any notes regarding fastener's usage status.

On choosing fastener he expects to be limited to only those entries (dimensions) that were used at least in one company's product.

I don't feel much enthusiastic with idea of deleting entries from CCL (that same designer still wants to have opportunity to generate any dimension available in the market), editing some iprop etc.

Pretty obvious that "Place from Vault" (http://help.autodesk.com/view/VAULT/Help/ENU/?guid=GUID-4AACE431-FCE8-49C6-B732-4BF56DA1BB87) should be much closer to the need declared.

But i've found a bit strange behaviour of default (?basic?) search - it seems not contain files present in Library Vault-folder.

The "Advanced search" (which seems like overkill for the task) that is build-in to "Place from Vault" window does include files from Library Vault-folder!

I wonder ...

if other face this same different behaviour?

Is there anything i've missed?

Is it a deliberate limitation (what the sence) of basic search or just another Inventor-Vault issue?

Content center should be filtered. It should at least be limited to the items that make sense in the production environment. We will for instance never use any japanese standards or inches stuff. So it is helping everybody that you don't see these items in content center.
Within allowed standard fasteners no dimensional constraints should be set
Vault can be used to store copies of content center items if these items are referenced in the production environment. If your company has a range of fasteners that have a company reference number then it makes sense to store these in Vault. This gives you the opportunity to set extra information such as part number, material, packing quantities etc.

When using "place from content center" then 'search' and 'advanced search' look into content center. At least that is what I think I see.

When using "place from Vault" I can also use the search tool. If I enter information that is relevant to screws then it will turn up the screws that are present in Vault as file. Content center screws always link back to content center and - as such - are not physically present in Vault. Again this is what I conclude from what I know and what I see in our Vault environment.

Previous suggestion to copy referenced fasteners into Vault would help. If done rigorously you have a filter for previously used fasteners.

All that you have written is true.

But could you please practically do this steps:

1. Run Inventor-command "Open from content center" and choose any component with is NOT present in Vault as a file

2. Check the file into Vault

3. Run Inventor-command "Open from Vault" and try to find the file from step2 using only Basic Search:

Success or "There are no items to show in this view"?

Well, I did the search from Vault and it turns up results. Tried "ISO 7045", with and without whitespace, both searches are valid. I placed one and checked iProperties. These files are actually present in the database as file. And that's where I think the problem can be. In normal functioning content center parts are not saved. If you look in the file dialogue there is never anything from content center. The assembly will hold the reference but not the part.

Please check in your environment and try copying a fastener in Vault and re-run the search.

In you case the file uploaded to Vault is stored in special Content Center Folder (folder icon - bookshelf), right?

"Official" fasteners are in the "FIX" section of Vault (company created subdivision). But other items will be in project folders. There is no link between copied fasteners and content center. All our fasteners that have a company reference number need a drawing document to guide them through purchase department. Major reason to copy the items.

The issue I've described occurs only with files in special (Content Center) folder. Basic search don't include them.

Fasteners that turned up in the search of "place from Vault" are in standard folders.
