Link Part Parameters to IDW

Is there no way to link part parameters to an IDW the same way that you would link one part to another?

Right now I have created a dummy part and using iLogic have imported the information needed, but seems sort of silly.

(These are standard parts so when they get copied to a job, the part name changes and iLogic does not update this so hence

the dummy part that does not get its name changed.)

The only way I know without iLogic.

1. Create Part Parameters and mark them for Export (they will be added to your Custom iProperties).

2. Open your IDW (could also be a IDW template).

3. Tools > Document Settings > Drawing tab select Copy Model iProperty Settings and select your iProperties.

4. They will now be available in the Custom Properties of your drawing.

The only disadvantage of this is if you want to update the Properties you will need to press Update Copied Properties on the Manage tab.

Maybe someone knows how to trigger the Update Copied Properties command on save using iLogic?

Chris,

If you are able to link iproperties to the parameters, then illogic is not needed. A little vague on what exactly you are trying to accomplish. Looks like you are trying to have info automatically update in the parts list or any other table.

Thanks. This may have worked, but it would appear that you cannot link "Text" type parameters which is what I am using.

I did not know this was there though so thank you.

Thanks. What I am doing is updating my drawing title block automatically based on configuration from a master model. I am converting some values to a String and using iLogic to update the idw title.

It is working, but I had to use a dummy part.

What is it your are trying to do? (There may be better ways if you explain your intent in detail)

"Marking a parameter for export" just makes a custom iprop that can be used in the idw.. So any reason you can't just use a custom iprop from the start instead of a text parameter?

I'm in agreement with mcgyvr.

I think I understand you to be saying that you have a model ( I assume an assembly?) where the project information is entered, and that you do not want to push that project information into your standard parts from that assembly, since they are used across projects. But you do want to have the project information in the drawing title block of that component.

So if I understand this correctly, I think there are a few ways to do this since, particularly since you're using ilogic already, but I'd want to know more about the files that contain the project information.

The built in method involves this setting:

Ribbon: Tools tab Options panel Document Settings . In the dialog box, click the Drawing tab.

Could you also tell us what method you are using to copy the files? Some methods will allow you tob update the part number to match the file name...

I use a custom program that I developed by modifying the "copy design" VB project that is included with apprentice server.

It works very well, and I do set the "part number" field automatically when copying the files to a job.

This doesn't really have anything to do with my original post but I hope I answered your question.
