topic push-release latch mechanism using contact sets in Inventor Forum

I'm trying to create a push-release latch mechanism using contact sets. My goal is to create a kind of presentation within the assembly file to show my boss the mechanics using realistic-ish physics.

I've got the assembly finished, but my problem is with the constraints. I need a way for the latch to "spring" back into its original position, but only when released. Same thing with the release mechanism, when I move the latch, which is connected to an extension/tension spring, it should return to its original position.

Does anyone know of a way to do this?

You might be able to use Limits, but for physics you need to go into Environments>Dynamic Simulation.

Can you post your assembly file of that mechanism? (don't forget to include all the ipt files too and any subassembly iam files)

As stated by JD.. You can use the "limits" options in the constraint dialog box and more specifically the "Use Offset as Resting Position" checkbox which will cause it to return to that position after any manual movement which will basically get you that requirement to "spring back" to its original position..
