Hi

I am trying to add the ANSYS 17.2 student version add-in to the INVENTOR 2017. However when I click on the add-ins icon in Inventor I see a list but cannot find Ansys 17.2 (workbench). Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Hi, thanks for your reply, so are you suggesting to re-install ANSYS because I have already Installed it and I have also installed Inventor 2017 already but I am unable to find the add-in of ANSYS in inventor.

Thanks

@Anonymous
You have to copy the cad file from your downloaded folder in you ANSYS and place it on the installed path like c or whereever you have installed your ANSYS . Then you have to run cad configuration of your ANSYS and click on inventor and do the configuration process there...... once done ropen inventor and you should get a pop up aski to disable or add the ANSYS plug ins and then uncheck the disable addins and your good to go... that is the only option that worked for me....

I don't understand where this "downloaded package" is. I have no file named "cads" either.

but in this directory, I find a few .dll files but I don't know if this is the one as it doesn't say inventor anywhere in the file name
C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v172\commonfiles\CAD\Acis\winx64

Here is a screenshot of whats in that folder. Please tell me what needs to be copied.

OK I did a little more searching and I found the place

<<Inventor PlugIn>>
Invalid Inventor Dll File Path in createAnsRegistryXML2 C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v172\aisol\CADIntegration\Inventor\winx64\DSPlugInAICOM.dll
Detected Inventor Registry for version 2015

But the thing is there's no Inventor file there within the CADIntegration folder.

Thank You for your answers

The files you look for is in the downloaded instalation package of ANSYS: ("C:\Users\ANTONIO\Downloads\ANSYSACADEMICSTUDENT_172_WINX64\cads\ai" in my case);

In this directory there is a file:"WINX64.7z"; copy and extract it and you can see a Inventor folder; move this folder to the directory that causes installing error and run again CAD configuraction manager and you'll see that all is oK.

Hi, I understand the problem your facing.

Short Answer: You can't fix the issue anymore

Long Answer: Around February 2017, I was able to use Ansys 17.2 plug-in in Inventor 2017 by using the Ansys CAD Configuration Manager. But later the same year around October 2017, I tried the same thing with Inventor 2018 and Ansys 18.2. It didn't work. There wasn't even a CAD configuration manager in Ansys 18.2.

I followed this thread: https://studentcommunity.ansys.com/thread/cad-configuration-manager-not-installed/

In this thread, it was revealed that the CAD integration Option has been withdrawn for the student version of the software, so you'll no longer be able to use the plug-in feature. The option is available only in Commercial License Ones, the kind used by Companies.

The only suggestion I found was to create a CAD Model->export in .iges format -> import to SpaceClaim and then make all edits in SpaceClaim.

If you or anyone else reading this thread comes across a way to get the cad integration please post it here.
