topic Screw Re size in Inventor Forum

Hi there,

I am a physicist who designs and builds all kinds of detectors and support structures. I do mostly prototyping of small parts and assemblies and I always try to use an excel file to keep parameters for all dimensions and relationships. These designs constantly change as people think of new things as we are dreaming something up. It is a pleasure to change one dimension and have this change propagate through a large assembly.

One thing that is always a chore is that if I change hole sizes I have to go through to each part as I don't know how to put the specifications of a hole into a parameter file. Sure diameter and depth are easy but what about counterbore depth or change to countersink?

Also, is there a way to propagate a change in hole size and depth to an assembly with screws? If I change from M4 to M3 hole in a part can all the screws in an assembly change automatically?

cheers,

Harry

Hi!

No, is not possible, there's no tool out of the box to do all that.

But like you said, all that are parameters. Adding those and some iLogic programing is possible to build a system like you are talking, but you need to cross a lot of parameters in a more complicated web scheme.... but is possible, i do that sometimes.

yes, this was my preliminary conclusion after searching the web and the forum for an answer to my question. I was hoping there was some simple solution that I wasn't aware of. I have been using ACad and then mechanical desktop and now inventor for 25 years and I still learn new simple solutions, just not this time.

thanks

Maybe in a future not far away the solution will appear. if is possible to do with iLogic, is possible to create the tool out of the box.

Also change the Frame generator elements is not possible, but i guess it's a request of many people, as the holes.

Maybe a new version of bolt connection will bring that... the actual tool is full of bugs... let's way a little bit more.
