Hello everyone,

I have got two files with IGS & IGES formats,

The file includes the centreline of a tube which has been extracted from an an X-Ray file of the actual tube.

The problem is that, since the tube centreline is not in a single plane, it is divided into lots of small pieces of lines. My plan is to use a smooth line and sweep a circle along it to replicate the tube.

The problem is that I cannot find a way to smoothen the line in inventor. I even tried to project the centreline on a plane but it did really work!!

So, could someone please kindly help me on this?

Best,

Ali

Hi Alimosayyebi

I made a 3D sketch and cherry picked a few points off the imported 3D sketch using a spline.

I don't know how accurate / smooth the loft need be (I tryed sweep but no joy) so re-make

the centre line 3D sketch if not smooth enough.

What is your purpose, your design intent, for this "tube"?

If you are attempting to reduce the design to a simplified form - you should be able to get any desired path for a Sweep by following the general instructions in the attached document.

Not sure if you found a solution, but I have attached a swept tube along your supplied path. Please see attached.

I do agree with @JDMather, what is the purpose and simplification would be a good idea.

Hello @Anonymous

thanks for the file,

this seems to be something similar to what I am looking for,

Still through, I would need to sweep it rather than using loft! because the tube is supposed to be a pipe rather than a solid tube, similar to the attached photo. Also, I will be putting later holes on the wall, shown in the image, so I believe would be a better option!

Thanks very much @JDMather for the link, I am now looking into it to find the closest route to the actual centre line! The centre line is extracted from the x-ray of a pipe so it's better to use, ideally the closest path without nodes and breaks.

Thanks very much @blandb for the file, the problem with this is the breakages in the nodes! so I believe @Anonymous file is a better to go for now. However, still the problem of creating a pipe exists.

Best,

Ali

Hi @Anonymous,

a lot of experts have worked for you here and it seems that you got what your needed. Last but not least the final hint from JDMather to use the shell command to get a pipe instead of a solid tube.

Which way did you chose? Please share your experience with all readers by either marking at least one solution or posting the solution.

Thank you
