Inventor holding versions in memory

IV2015 User, I checked in a large assembly to the vault and ticked the box to delete local copy. When I went to re-open the assembly from vault next time, I got the following message:

This seems to imply that the computer is holding onto my last version of the model and will open that, instead of the latest version in the vault. That's quite risky, if someone else has worked on the model after me and made changes.

Is there a way to stop this so I always get the latest version from the vault?

In theory Vault should contain the latest and greatest at all time and I believe that is what you are looking for. In order to always open the latest version you can do the following:

As shown below, when you check something into Vault, make sure that "delete working copies" is checked. This will delete the working copies from your local drive so next time that you open the file it will only open the latest version from Vault.

Back to your fist issue if you are sure that Vault contains the latest version, delete the folder that contains those data and open from Vault. Another method is to do a "Get" from Vault and get the latest files from Vault before opening the files.

Somewhat missed the point of my post. I had already ticked the box to delete local copy, so no copy existed on my computer whatsoever. The only copy being in the vault.

However when I went to open from vault, and thus download from the vault to my computer, I got the above message telling me that the model was already open in memory.

Also have an issue where clicking 'get / checkout ' in Vault Basic 2015 doesn't actually download from Vault. If you have made any changes to model they won't be replaced by the current version in the vault. You have to manually refresh the file in the vault browser in Inventor.

The only way I'm aware of (purely from my experience, no inside knowledge) that an Inventor file remains open in memory is if a referencing file (assembly, derived part, etc.) is still open in Inventor. That is, if you've got a higher level assembly open that references the component in question, then it's still open in memory. If everything has been closed, then it shouldn't be in memory.

Hi mjc_design,

I don't have a guess for the "why", but what you can do is:

change your browser from Model to Vault
then right click on the browser node of the out of date file
and choose Refresh File

This will ensure that you have the latest from Vault.

Unfortunately i'm getting that message about it being open in memory, when I don't have any files open. I'm wondering if its to do with Windows (I think its 10 we have?). At times the computer seems to hold a lot in system and compressed memory

I think this would have to be an Inventor problem, not Windows. If you close Inventor and then re-open it, does the problem persist?

That does seem to stop the message - turn it off and on again - obviously!!

We also get a fair few of those yellow warning symbols in the vault status, not sure what's going on really
