Mirror components loses constraints 1

Hi Inventor Users World wide

I have had problems before with using mirror components when a constraint on one of the components mirrored changes, the mirrored parts remain where they are and don't change as well.

Having read

this post I see that this is something that Inventor doesn't handle well, and work arounds need to be done.

I usually don't bother with the mirror and just position each and every component separately.

I have read others that do different things.

See attached screenshots what I have done (constrained each sub assy separately)

and see attached file.

Is there a better or easier or simpler/less time consuming way of constraining these 6 subassemblies.

I have attached the 2 parts and 1 sub assembly here and will attached the 1 main assembly in another post

I think the easiest thing would be to create constraints for two segments (one on each side) and then make a rectangular pattern of the components.

The assembly mirror is fundamentally different from the sketch mirror.

In the sketch, the mirror's task is first to create relationships, and secondly to adjust the geometry if it is compatible.

In assembly it is the other way around - the purpose of the mirror operation is to create geometry, and in addition it can be given relationships (quite imperfect, because it is usually limited to grounding the new component). The mirror operation on the montage does not create a symmetry relationship as such.

If it comes to time saving I would suggest ilogic rules. If it is something you do multiple times per day and is consistent then it's worth spending the time.

See simple example here. If you think that would work it would only be a matter of mimicking they way in which you select assemblies/ workplanes.

That sounds like a better idea, than how I have done it.

I have come to realise that, as, I think, have a lot of other inventor users, which is why

I, as well as them, are looking at other methods, outside of the full assembly mirror,

of not losing those constraints.

I have been doing insertion of each and every sub assembly, and then constraining each

and every one of those sub assemblies.

However I am looking to find alternative methods, hence the reason for this posting.

I was looking a learning ilogic sometime in the near future anyway, and have already started looking at some of the basics.
