i don't understand about the thread thing that you mentioned.

are there 2 thread feature in inventor ? one for inner thread (hole) , the other for outer thread ? i only saw hole thread.. didn't see the other thread. and i did use hole thread .. because both of them are actually holes.

and i also can't perform the move body that you told me.. i manage to locate it, but i can't move it to the 0,0,0.

to evolve around a center line is no problem.

but what i really want is the way to move the object to the 0,0,0 with one of it face line up to any of the axis..

i know it is really not needed for the assembly, just use constrain and it will fall into place respectively.. but i just want to orient it without modifying sketch and without doing any assembly , just want it to orient the way i wanted..

is it possible ? could you kindly do a video for me on this 2 doubts of mine ?

thank you.

andrew

It'd be easier if you shared the part

However to fix the revolve ... make a revolve center-line on the axis .. you can project the axis and change it to the center line of revolve move / change the dims so that you are now able to revolve about that axis/center-line

Hi!

1-If you have the sketch feature, just edit the skecth until it be centered and fully constrain.

2-If the part doesnt have operations, it's just a dumb solid, use the move solid operations to place it in the propper place.

Note: even if you have the sketch (all operations available in the browser), but you don't want to edit the sketch (sometimes we don't wanna do that for many reasons), you can always use move bodies tool to place the part in center place.

You can move bodies using "Direct edit" tool, or in "move bodies" tool. You can find both in the modify tab. (move bodies is hidden in the tab, open the arrow down)

Tip: Don't use the thread tool to create inner threads, only outer threads. Instead of that , use hole tool to create the inner thread.

Reason: make some measures and you will see that probably you have something wrong.

Post your part..

But its as simple as editing your first sketch to make your revolved profile axis centered on the center point..

Then as to the threads you should be using the minor diameter of whatever thread your are placing..

And yes I would have used the hole tool for both those threads vs an extruded cylinder + the thread command..

I only use the thread command to do external threads.. Doesn't matter much buts its just easier.

I agree. The best time to get out of your bad habits is now!

Roll the end of part market up under the base sketch, re-define the base sketch into the correct plane and then edit the sketch and fix it!

Roll the EOP down and fix any issues that raise. Bear in mind that you wouldn't have to do all this hard work if you did it right first time...

...and be grateful that @Anonymous hasn't commented on this thread!

#NoMercy

Hii CADWHISPER

let's just say, this ipt is designed by my friend who passed this ipt file to me to be assembled into my project.. he did his part of design and i did mine.. and i do the assembly of all parts.. unfortunately thats what my friend did.. he didn't design the item from ground 0,0,0.. that's just the way he do things..

but as for me, i want it to be neat .. by align it neatly at an axis start with 0,0,0.

that's is just a scenario of course.. because in practical life, things do happen..

i m asking for such "recovery" action because i myself did once tried out the freerotate feature of inventor and messed up my solid by anyhow rotate it in 3d space and saved it. .. after that i kept searching a way to recover it, but to no avail...hence i deleted the ipt and redo again..

*this is real, not a scenario* .. hence i keep in my mind want to know how to achieve it..

but everybody keep telling me that i should design good starts from beginning... my answer is weird things happened.. it is a real life ... not everything always starts so smoothly..

there have to be a way to do it.. and i want to know how.. i will do prevention, but i also want to know recovery method, so in case this ever happen again in future i can manage it immediately , instead of asking around in forum...

thanks

andrew

Hii CADWhisper

thank you for your video..

you shed a lot of light on my mistake.. and i understood a lot of thing how inventor suppose to be used in designing part..

thank you. very informative..

sorry about the dimension.. i just simply made up a case scenario to solve the relocation of 0,0,0 issue which you didn't yet solve for me.

and yes, you are right, the 0,0,0 is supposed to be under the circle..

i would really love to know how are you gonna achieve this..

pls make another video on it.. i am anxious to learn it..

and your voice in the instruction video made all your correction on the drawing so meaningful..

because a lot of time i received instruction video without voice , hence i can only guessing what's the "teacher" trying to say on some moves that i don't understand.

thank you.

andrew

Hii CADWhisper

can i request you for 2 instructional videos ?

one of it is the final relocation of the 0,0,0 on the part itself as "a correction" to a novice who never know to start part design on 0,0,0

2nd video is, how would you design the same part (just assume the dimension that you suggested in the above video ) . how do pro do it in practical life with voice instruction and explanation of each of your action .

i believe with such instructional video and explanation, i will have a lot of "cloudy" confusion in my mind removed..

btw, after i saw your video, i just realized that by dragging the object, actually the dimension changes (worst! whole object appearance actually 'deformed") .. i never thought such thing will happen.. i thought when i dimension it, it will stay as dimension ed value... in fact i deleted a lot of the natural constrains because it is so annoying.... lol

so i guess one of the lesson i learnt is that dimension along is not good enough, the constraints is equally important in inventor .. without proper constrain dimension won't stay as it is..

I recommend that you stop whatever you are doing and find a set of dimensioned drawings (typical in technical drafting books found in a library).

Find a project for an assembly that is of interest to you.

Model each part according to the drawing (just like making the real parts out in the shop).

Attach your files here as you go.

This will help you avoid picking up bad habits, just like I would not allow anyone untrained to run my machines without supervision.

Once you have learned robust, disciplined modeling techniques - then you will be ready to take on any project of your own.

Thank you.

in order to locate a mess up part to a good start datum, i will have to constrain it, dimension it, project the 0,0,0 (center point) into the sketch, then drag the solid via desired machining reference point to the projected center point.

Got it.

thanks

andrew

Hii Paulmunford,

what do you mean by roll the end of part down to edit the sketch ?

JDmather edited the sketch just like that.. so easy..

i don't know if i missed out some other method that you use to redefine the origin point in a sketch...

thanx

andrew

Hi,

When you drag the EOP marker up the tree, any features below the EOP are not calculated. This is helpful if you are making a change to a feature that might make the rest of the feature explode when you change it!

It can be helpful to roll the EOP up, make the change and then roll the EOP down to see each feature re-calculate the change. If you see a feature break, you can fix it before rolling the EOP down any further.

Here is a reference for you:
http://autodesk.blogs.com/between_the_lines/2012/05/five-ways-to-use-autodesk-inventors-end-of-part-marker-in-your-daily-workflow.html
