Hi, I'm having an issue with the fillet function while doing a sketch. Instead of just rounding the corner of the specified sketch, makes a complete circle in order to make the sketch follow the designed radius, deforming the completely defined sketch. Is it a matter of constraints? or is there a way to specifically configure the fillet function? I'm attaching the screen capture of the issue

Can you share the sketch ....

I can see about 10 constrains I'd use, that I don't see, even if it's fully constrained

Sure, please take a look. I kept going on the piece despite the issue, that's why there's an inner drawing now, but the outer sketch is the one of the issue.

Why did you attach a dxf file? 😂

Hi jvargasgomez,

The problem is that you're making that sketch work too hard and it has become angry. Treat your sketches better and this won't happen.

I don't know what you're creating, but I'm certain it would be better to create lots of simple sketches rather than just one sketch that is controlling everything:

http://inventortrenches.blogspot.com/2011/03/inventor-101-simple-fully-constrained.html

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis
http://inventortrenches.blogspot.com

ahh you meant that. I shared the sketch separatedly from the piece i'm making, because I just kept going on the piece and I already extruded it. I just did the fillet on the solid afterwards. But I'm very curious about why the sketch goes crazy when I try to do the fillet in it. Thank you for helping!

Hi jvargasgomez

There was another thread a while back that demonstrated a fully constrained sketch that acted strangely. I'll try to dig it up, it had an explanation in it from one of the Autodesk developers. But it was something to do with a lot of deleting and re-sketching ( I think).

Can you attach the *.ipt file? And tell us which version of Inventor you're using?

See video for an example of a simple sketch aprpaoch. Of course you might not be creating a flat "plate", but you can still get the idea of how using multiple simple sketches makes a much more stable model.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis
http://inventortrenches.blogspot.com

Thank you for the info!

Indeed I've re done the sketch several times, I just deleted everything and then re-drew it. I wonder if it's because of the same reason. The sketch it's supposedly fully constrained, and doesn't let me add any other constraint.

Attach the IPT file with what you've done so far.

Why would you want to fillet the Sketch for in the first place. Inventor is a Parametric design tool, you want your sketch to be simple and robust. All the features such a Fillets, Chamfers and Holes should be done as Features. This way they stand out in the Feature Browser Tree for easy editing without upsetting your basic model.

Keep your basic model sketch as simple as possible. The only time you should use the Fillet command in the sketch environment is when the fillet is a defining part of the basic shape that will never be changed.

Its doing that because thats the only valid solution to the dimensions (and constraints) you have created..

You may need to adjust other dimensions first to keep the sketch from doing that..

Thats a huge change in the radius.. Are you trying to scale the whole sketch up or something?
