Hi fellow Inventor users.

I have the problem with inventor, where inventor is "thinking" and getting white screen, and sometimes shutdown.

when I then check the CPU use it´s between 10 and 22 % why do Inventor not use a lot more of the CPU power, and is there anything I can do, so it use more?

Specs

Processor i7

RAM 32

GPU Nvidea K2200

Inventor is a single-threaded application, which means it can only use one core of the CPU at any given time.

There are exceptions, though. FEA and rendering are multithreaded, and can therefore use more than one core.

Edit: See the link for an overview

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Support-for-multi-core-processors.html

Depending on your setup, the complexity of your geometry, the complexity of your assemblies, and the amount of constraints in those, there may, or may not be anything to do about it.

It all comes down to what small steps you can take to prevent loading times.

I can't give many recommendations when I haven't seen what's causing the problem.

well okay, it not just 1 part/assembly

the problem is that in all the things I "draw/make" in inventor there are a lot of holes, (over 10.000) and in assembly there are parts in all these holes.

10.000 holes... That's your problem. The geometry is too complex, even if it's just a bunch of holes. Perforation is nigh impossible to handle in Inventor.

Unless it is an absolute necessity to have the perforation on the 3D, I would create an appearance to handle it.

And then I would handle the holes on the 2D files (I suppose it's for CNC cutting and / or stamping?)

yeah thats a lot of holes.

the problem is that our head office WILL have it all in 3D so it´s a pain in the *** most of the time.

it´s not for cutting and / or stamping but same procedure 🙂

May I suggest that you change your workflow so you create everything without holes, and then add the holes in the end?

That way you can work with it, and when it's done and you don't have to change anything else, you can add the holes.

Your machine will thank you for that 😉

I'm with @YannickEnrico,

Try saving the holes until the end, then roll up the end of part to just above the holes while you are working, before saving, etc. Also look into making "Dummy" parts that are just work axis, work planes and work points aligned to your holy part (Or even create a shrinkwrapped or similar part). Then leave that part suppressed or deleted from the assembly until you are ready to submit / vault. Let the Dummy part align the other parts, etc.

Hope this helps,
