Hi all,

My first post on this forum:).

I couldn't immediately find another question on this.

I am making shop assembly drawings with exploded views made in "presentation" from an assembly with different design representations containing some M2 bolts with various lengths.

Some sub assemblies are shown over multiple sheets.

The idea was to only show item qty of that specific active sheet in the parts list of that same specific sheet.

The problem is that, with my current approach, the item qty of the entire assembly is shown in that specific sheet's parts list.

I also cannot change the item qty manually because the next sheet uses a different amount.

I've tried to create different model states (there are more than 15) and this will solve my issue but there is one big drawback for us.

Because our product is undergoing continuous improvement, there are a lot of revisions being made.

I noticed the iProperties of each model state is different, this means that with every revision we need to manually change all 15 iProperties (for this assembly alone).

There is too much that could go wrong this way.

oh this is a big topic and i dont like the aproch via model states. It is to complicated to handle and really fast you can do mistakes. And i dont know what will happend in Vault Prof. with the Partlists -> ERP

I still think also with your task one assembly one drawing. It means you put your mainparts in a Assembly as an phantom and create 15 iams and 15 ipns. So will have cleare partlists and after 10 years the newbys will understand what have done. 🙂

and we are also discussing it here quite often. 🙂

best wishes Sascha

@raeNAS4P wrote:

I noticed the iProperties of each model state is different, this means that with every revision we need to manually change all 15 iProperties (for this assembly alone).

There is too much that could go wrong this way.

If this is the impediment to using model states, I hope I can help with that. Changing multiple iProperties on fifteen different model states is not too difficult if you edit the model states in Excel (right click on the Model States folder and choose Edit via Spreadsheet...). Being Excel, you have access to all its useful tools such as drag fill.

Sorry, I don't have a good answer for your overall problem, but perhaps model states can be part of the solution with this in mind.

I try to use Design View Reps, not Model States for assembly instructions. We gave up on using presentation files some years ago. We don't like the complexity of the timeline or the issues with managing the view export.

My workflow:

Create different Design View Reps for each assembly step.

Create assembly folders with the same name of each assembly step.

Move the sub-components to the various folders

The folders act as quick selection filters for building and maintaining the Design View Reps during the design process,

Show/Hide the folders as required for each Design View Rep.

Lock each Design View Rep as it is finished.

Link drawing views to the Design View Reps

Make sure to hit the link button, so changes in the assembly are linked to the drawing

Add Parts Lists for each view/sheet/step

Edit the Parts Lists and apply Design View Rep filters

Edit the title of the Parts List to indicate the step

Drawing Parts Lists can be filtered by Design View Reps.
