Part / Assembly Visualization

In my assembly file, I am looking to be able to turn the visualization on and off for parts and sub assemblies.

I have a linked Excel file with a simple on/off switch using "1" being on or "0" being off.

It's very easy to do this with sketches, but what about the part or assembly as a whole?

Here's another monkey wrench. If a part/assembly is turned off, I don't wan't it to appear in my Bill of Materials either.

I have never used iLogic before, so please help in layman's terms, lol, if this is needed.

Any help is appreciated

I'm not sure of the details of the how/why you are wanting to do this but have you tried creating iassemblies?

Thats a tool thats built into Inventor to allow you to create a "group" of assemblies that are similar but some parts/subs,etc.. are not present in certain members as needed and would not be included in the BOM or parts list..

No coding required at all..

The link that johnson provided is useful for certain situations but I'm not sure if its whats "best" for you.. But I don't have all the details so I can only assume..

Sorry, I should have included I am using Inventor 2016.

I have an overall assembly that includes sub-assemblies. Sometimes these sub assemblies are not needed, and for purchasing, I do not want them in my BOM.

I have yet to try iAssemblies.

Hello James,

look at my screencast, it will show you how to use the parameters (0/1) to turn off and on parts with iLogic

(you need to make a Level of detail first, as you can see in the screencast)

Still not much detail there but I'm still wanting to push you towards iassemblies..

ilogic is great for things Inventor cannot do or do easily..

But I'd rather see you use the built in.. press a button and go tools vs having to worry about code,etc...

I still plan to try an iassembly, I agree with your view on using code. Main reason I haven't bothered to educate myself with it as of yet.
