You are most likely doing nothing wrong. If your version of Ansys is the same release year or an older than your Inventor 2017, you won't be able to do a import of the native Inventor file. It would most likely read and import a IV2016 file without issues.

CAD software is written using the current kernels of other software while its under development. When it's released it can't read the kernels of the newer software. You will have to stick to exporting the Inventor files to a neutral format and then importing the exported file in.

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to import inventor files (.iam .ipt) from Inventor 2017 into Ansys AIM 18.0

I first tried to use the Ansys Product and CAD Configuration Manager program but it doesn't have inventor, or any CAD software listed at all. (Picture 1)

I then went into the cads folder in my Ansys directory and checked for the Autodesk Inventor plug in there. I found a zip file there and extracted it into that folder but this did not solve it. Do I need to leave it zipped or is there something else I need to do? (Picture 2)

Then I tried looking in the add ins tab in Inventor but couldn't find an Ansys translator there. (Picture 3)

I am able to import step files into Ansys from Inventor but I need to be able to put assembles in for analysis.

Is there anything else I can do? Did I do something wrong in one of my previous attempts?

Thanks

When I export a file from Inventor in a neutral (.neu) format and then import it in Ansys, it's called an unsupported format.Figure
