I've included a link to a good post on this forum:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/how-fast-is-your-inventor-pc-really/td-p/5950908

For most parts, Inventor utilizes a single core on the CPU for modeling. FEA, Rendering and the view creation/placement in the Drawing Environment make use multi-cores in the CPU.

Go for the fastest clock-speed CPU you can afford. 32Gb of memory is more than enough for Inventor as well. Since the move about 8-10 years ago to Direct3D, there is no need for OpenGL graphics cards. Any decent "Gaming" card will do. Inventor will make use of the graphics card V-Ram, so look for cards with at least 2Gb of VRam. Don't get hung up on "Autodesk Certified Drivers", as long as the graphics card drivers are "Microsoft Certified", you will be fine.

I don't know if SW still uses "OpenGL", if so, then you would need to stay with Quadro cards. For the "Inventor Only" boxes, save the money from not using "Quadro" cards and invest it on faster CPU clock speed units.

So it time to replace all of our workstations since the whole lots leases have been up for awhile.

IT just presented me with specs for new machines and think we may be a little over spec'd.

Years ago I had the standard of dual processors when I believe IV was multi threaded but I don't think that is the case now.

It appears they are trying to make all of the CAD boxes in the plant the same. Some other groups run NX / Pro-e.

This fist specs is the CAD machine proposal and the second is from one of the Programming groups boxes.

I'm feeling like I might want to ask for the i7 single with the 16gb Quadro and double the RAM to 128 GB.

I know they want all the CAD boxes to be the same but I feel my performance may be better if I switch things around.

Just a sided note, we do have a group using SW here and they are getting the same as the programmers but with only 32 GB of ram.

Any Thoughts?
