Hi,

Is there any to export a model (a steel frame, for example) to .IFC, but keeping all objects separated?

I have a model of complex steel structure, and I need to export it to IFC and then import this into SpaceGass (structural engineering analysis software).

Currently I can export successfully (Through Environments>BIM Contents>Export Building Components). Which works, however all of the individual steel members are connected together (essentially, the entire model is 'one element').

I need a way to export the model, so that each member is its own entity. That way, I can analyse each member in the analysis software.

I do not use Inventor and have downloaded it solely for the purpose of converting the original file into a format that I can input to Spacegass.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

You would need to export the Inventor file to a neutral format such as IGES or a STEP file and then import the neutral format.

Thanks for the reply, but I must still be doing something wrong: See attached for the error message when I try to import the .STP file

Hi Blair,

Unfortunately Spacegass cannot read .IGES filetypes.

I'm limited to .ifc and .step

I have the same problem. I want to export an Inventor project to IFC with separated objects and the iProperties I've added to al de objects. Is there a solution already?

Any input is warmly welcomed and very much appreciated!

Thanks!
