i am wondering if this can also be done in inventor

i also use solidworks and was adding a rib.seems you always get a straight portion

in the pink model.

but i was checking out utube to get rid of the straight portion which is done in solidworks by projecting lines on circular surface from flat surface then use the lofted boss base command to get rid of that little straight section shown in the gold model

lastly i saw a video adding adding a rib to three circular surfaces with inventor which you get those straight parts again

is there a way to get rid of those straight parts in inventor

Yes.

This is a geometry problem - not a software specific problem.

It would be done exactly the same way in any CAD software.

(This is an interesting geometry problem that I first encountered 40 years ago out on the shop floor.)

While a blended rib looks nicer than a flat surface rib, aesthetics typically is not a significant consideration when producing machine parts such as this. Inventor's Rib tool recognizes this fact by not offering a "blend" option. Nevertheless, producing a blended rib is not so terribly difficult. First technique that occurred to me is attached (Inventor 2024 format). I'm sure there is an easier way to do this.

actually is wasnt the rib command in solidworks .it gave me the same thing as

inventor. but while i was searching for a way in inventor. i came across a new way in solidworks.

draw a sketch on flat surface use a command split line which projects onto circular surface

then use lofted boss base. figured there was a way in inventor as well.i try to check out utube alot never know what you pick up there.

was wondering since your answer to the inventor rib was very impressive i was wondering if a could pick your mind again i came across another rib in one of the solidworks tutorials which work nice in solidworks but no so well in inventor. i had to break into 2 seperate extrusions first your way to circular surface then regular extrude command. was wondering if their was a easier way. i hope you dont mind me asking. i find you can always learn from someone else.
