The issue is really with find numbers in the ballons. If the assembly has 100 items, then the PL from that would be 100 items long. Not a deal breaker, but now how do I find where item 15 is, the pl shows 5 used? Do I have to go to page 3, then page 4 etc and look for it. I know I can renumber the FN but I cannot have a part on two pages with a different FN, nor can I break down the PL for only the items visible. Yes I can modify the PL for each page but the PL is linked to the assembly not the presentation file.

What I did in Autocad designer back in 1995 is create subassemblies and used those, but back then it was easier to create the drawings in 2D, yes 2D representations of 3D objects. See the pdf - http://aaaproducts.com/res/files/parts/thread/A224.pdf

I want to create drawings on a complex assembly. All the parts have manufacturing prints or are purchased parts.

Where can I get examples of solutions -

I do not want how to - just here is how I did it or this is another way?

My problem - if I create a single assembly with multiple views/presentations then the find numbers are 1-200, and where is FN 5 used?

Is the solution to create a complete assembly - then create a derived part based on the assembly/sub-assembly?

Hi! If I understood your request correctly, you probably want to create a presentation (ipn) of the assembly and then create drawing views based on the presentation. In Presentation environment, you can tweak the components so they can be seen. Is this what you are looking for?

Many thanks!

I'm not quite sure what you want to know, but here is my workflow.

Each 3d model (ipt/iam) gets a unique part number.

The 3d model's part number is its filename on disk and the display name in any assembly model browser.

Each 3d model is detailed in a separate idw file where the idw file name matches the model file name/part number.

IPN file names match the parent iam file name/part number.

The item number shown in a drawing Parts List or assembly BOM is an index number that can change at any time.

Purchased components only get a drawing if they will be altered after purchase.

The Open Drawing command from a 3d model works because the drawing file name matches the model file name and the drawings are stored in the same directory as the model.

Manufacturing files like .stp, .pdf or .dxf are named <filename>r<revision number>.extension and are the only files sent to any manufacturing facility. Native CAD files do not leave the engineering department.

Break your upper level assembly into a collection of individual parts and sub-assemblies. On the last several sheets of the assembly drawing, open up the various sub-assemblies, create their parts lists, and balloon in the same manner as you did the upper level assembly. We force our Item Numbers in the parts list to correspond to the last digits of the parts/sub-assembly numbers, then re-order the parts lists.

Hi! To create a drawing view and parts list shown in the PDF file, you do need to create an ipn file. In ipn file, you can drag the components out of the assembly. Then create a drawing view based on the ipn file. Create a PartOnly Partslist and hide unnecessary rows.

Many thanks!

Create the assembly as pos 1, and add the components 2 to 10 to the drawing, then they have achieved that. Now she could capture that as in the pdf pattern.

This also works with a module this a piece list as in the pattern !!

Send a pattern then i will make you the drawing
