Adding (2D) Text to Asset Block - Parameter Driven

I have the need to have text information shown in my 2D (ACADM) layouts after syncing from Inventor. The text will be some form of description or part number which will need to be able to change based on the user selection of variable for each asset. For example, a safety fence panel asset that has the ability to change dimensions, and it needs to have a custom identifier displayed pertaining to the dimensions specified. How can I add this text so that it automatedly updates for my assets?

Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.

This image shows a part number associated with a particular size fence panel. Currently, I have to add this information to the block, each time a new layout is created, and add it again each time the parameters for this asset are changed.

I need to make 2D labels for my assets. The labels need to show up in AutoCAD. The labels need to be populated via iLogic, or User Parameters.

Help, please.

Hi! If I understood you request correctly, you could create sketch symbol with "prompted text" or parameters. When the symbol is inserted, the text should update based on the prompted entry or the parameters. To see exactly if it would work for you, it is better to have a file you are working on. So, we will be on the same page.

Symbols are the way to go but keep in mind that they will appear as separate items not part of your block. In other words, you will need to convert your drawing view and symbols to block in autocad.

The trick here is to create the symbol definition on a drawing that has placed views. It will then pick up on the parameters, iProperties, or else.

Symbols are powerful because you can hide leader line and it will show up in Autocad as floating text which is what you want.

Hiding the leader line in Inventor will still maintain it's position in regards to the view of the drawing

I guess you are a Factory Design Utilities user. The function "Factory Properties read parameter value" has been released in FDS 2017. I provide a video for you to study. I think this is what you want.

I am not able to mark a text type User Parameter for export... But I have nearly found a solution that could work. I am able to create a sketch that has a text field displaying the User Parameter value, and when I publish the asset there is an option to publish a sketch (you have to choose which one). This gets me the information I need in the 2D asset representation, however, the sketch selected is the only thing that publishes for the 2D asset, so there is now no line representation of the part.

So, I am still searching for a fully working solution.

Yes, publish asset with sketch only take the sketch you selected as the 2D, but not the projected view. I strongly recommend you to use Factory Properties, Text type user parameter is also supported.

I have done that, and while it seems like a potential temporary solution for some assets it does not provide me the flexibility that I require because I employ many adjustable assets... For example; a fence post can have several different foot plate styles, each of these styles would require a unique sketch to represent them, however, the software only allows the option to publish a single sketch.

Please don't publish with "Publish Sketch" option on. The method will only publish the specified sketch as the fixed 2D asset. If you publish asset with the default setting, it will take projected view as 2D asset. Then when you modify parameter, the 2D asset will also be updated in AutoCAD.

I understand the thought process there, however, I am able to publish selecting a sketch and it does adjust without issue. My standing issue is that this does not provide a solution where I need to have an asset that changes profile options (if that makes sense), such that a single (adjustable) sketch can never satisfactorily represent the 3D options.
