This is a question better asked in the Vault forum. I believe there should be no issues if you Get all related files from Vault before opening the drawing (it will then find all it needs available in your workspace), but perhaps this is a workflow that requires testing with the development team... whether or not it affects the relationship retention of the DWG/IDW file if you make it "blind" to related files just before checking in.

We typically defer updates prior to vaulting our drawings. Some of the drawings, which involve multiple assemblies and subassemblies, crash when the defer update is unchecked. This doesn't happen often but when it does, as it just did when finishing a project, it is infuriating. Help!

Thank you for your response. I have posted in the Vault forum. Can you please expand on making it "blind" prior to vaulting?

Thank you

Kevin Kincaid
Interior Design
Viking Yacht Company
(609) 296-6000 Ext 1537

This is just my theory, that perhaps there is something that deferring updates could cut off relationship handling between the drawing file and its children. Vault gathers all that info when you check something in, so I am hoping it's not anything like that. This would have probably been reported a long time ago if it miss-behaved like that, but it could be something to test with in case a new release changed things.

Hi Kevin,

Does the crash happen in Inventor or Vault? Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and the graphics driver is updated. Also the latest Inventor update and Vault update are installed.

Did you submit the crash report? If yes, please send me an email johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I would like to understand the crash better.

Many thanks!
