I am trying to create a sheet format in an Inventor 2017 dwg template, so that new sheets have independent revision tables. However, when I do this, the revision table changes from the size specified on the sheet that the format was created on, to a default revisions table size. Is there a way to have the sheet format copy the sheet exactly, and not just throw all the elements of the original sheet on the new sheet at the default size?

Unfortunatelly NO.

The template needs to be empty and you place revision after creating the drawing or it will be populated with template values.

I am assuming you are aware of sheet scope and drawing scope of revision table.

I believe you can do this, but only by creating a separate Revision Table Style for each different size. That will let you set the column widths appropriately for the different sheet sizes.

That being said - Why do you need the REV and BY fields to be wider just because the sheet size got bigger? I can understand the Description field being made larger when space permits, but the length of the revision designation and the number of initials your drafter has in his name doesn't usually change because the drawing got bigger.

I will try creating a new style, and see if that corrects the issue.

The sheet size did not change, it is just another sheet of the same size based on the first. I am not trying the change the size of the REV or BY columns, that is something Inventor did when I created the second sheet from sheet 1's format.

Trying to understand better your requirements.

You don’t change format of the table by editing the table directly. Right click on the revision table and choose. “Edit Revision Table Style”.

You can then customize the style rather than changing the current revision table only.

You can then change width , name of columns, and add/remove columns

Don't forget to save the style to library and update the template.

Unfortunatelly NO.

The template needs to be empty and you place revision after creating the drawing or it will be populated with template values.

I don't think that's the case. At my company, we've had the revision table placed in the template for over 5 years. Whatever data is in the table (initials, date) gets replaced when the new drawing is started. It does keep the revision, but in our case that's desirable. It would probably carry over the Description as well, but we intentionally leave that blank in the template.

We have a somewhat similar situation to what @Anonymous is trying to accomplish, except in our case the revision block's size isn't changing. It just gets placed in a different location on 8.5x11 drawings, because it won't fit beside the title block where we put it on larger drawings. That's a little simpler than the need here, because I don't have to deal with multiple Styles - just the sheet formats to place them.

@internAJFX5 wrote:

I will try creating a new style, and see if that corrects the issue.

The sheet size did not change, it is just another sheet of the same size based on the first. I am not trying the change the size of the REV or BY columns, that is something Inventor did when I created the second sheet from sheet 1's format.

My mistake, I assumed (incorrectly) that you were using the sheet formats to change the sheet size, and that the revision table's size was being adjusted to correspond to the bigger sheet.

The column resizing is because the original table has been adjusted manually. When the second one is placed by the Sheet Format, it receives the default column width settings defined in the style. Setting the column widths in the style (per @salariua's post) will resolve this issue.

Now that I'm not confusing the issue with things I thought you were doing that you really aren't, I think his style explanation is the entire solution to your problem. If you're not deliberately creating two differently-sized tables, then you don't need the two styles I mentioned before. You just need to correctly define the column widths in the one Style you already have.
