topic Autodesk Material 4140 in Inventor Forum

I've got a client asking about the similarity between materials 4140 and 4142.

From the client:

Currently, I see 4130 and then 4142 with some of the heat treated versions. From what I've found online, it looks like 4140 is very similar to 4142. But, I would like to know if Autodesk has anything to comment on the 4140.

Anyone know materials enough to comment on this?

Some useful info on these materials on makeitfrom.com

i think the difference between 4140 and 4142 is characterised by a different in the Carbon content of the steel (slightly higher in the 4142)

http://www.makeitfrom.com/material-properties/SAE-AISI-4130-SCM430-1.7218-25CrMo4-G41300-Cr-Mo-Steel

http://www.makeitfrom.com/material-properties/SAE-AISI-4140-SCM440-1.7225-42CrMo4-G41400-Cr-Mo-Steel

Slightly higher Chromium and Carbon in the 4142 over 4140.
