Importing .prt file from NX11 to inventor

Hello all,

I'm trying to import a part completed in NX11 but I can't seem to get it to work. After choosing to import a file through inventor, I get an error saying that the translation failed without any other details.

Any help on this matter? From what I could gather, Autodesk might not have the capabilities to import nx11 files. If this is true, does anyone know of a workaround?

What version of Inventor are you running (including Service Pack number)?

Can you attach the file here?

Can you request a STEP file from the source?

Hi! I vaguely remember seeing a similar case not long ago. It was about a specific type of spline surface that is supported by NX by not by Inventor. It is called periodic spline or something like that. There are a few options. You could try exporting it as STEP but it may fail also if the periodic spline surface carries over. Try to export as SAT 7.0 and see if it works. Please feel free to attach the file here so experts can comment further.

I'm unable to find the service pack number. I'm running Inventor Build 138 Release 2016.

You can download Service Pack 2 and Update 1 for SP 2 here.

Go ahead and request the *.stp and if it isn't too much trouble you might as well request *.igs Parasolid *.b_t and *.sat (ACIS v7 as indicated).

And of course, if you can attach the files here - that might help in diagnosing the issue.

THank you. I will try downloading it later today.

I tried attaching a file so that someone can look at it but this forum does not support a .prt attachments. any other way I can attach?

Hi! You should be able to attach any file as long as the size is less than the limit or the file is a document than an executive file. You can right-click on the .prt file -> Send to Compressed file (zip). Then you should be able to attach it here. Thank you, I did not explore compressing the file. I'm attaching it here. I will try installing the service pack updates today to see if that helps importing the file. Any other insight is helpful.

No I simply opened in Inventor 2018 and exported to step file 😉
