DYNAMIC SIMULATION - IS THIS POSSIBLE IN INVENTOR PRO??

Hi,

I have a concept I am trying to show the Dynamic Simulation on, but I am not sure if it is possible to achieve with Inventor Pro or if I will have to use another package to make this simulation.

I am trying to insert an Over size diameter support cage into a cylinder. When the Over size portion of support cage reaches the Internal Diameter of the cylinder I need to get the cage blades to FLEX down to the ID of the cylinder, thus allowing the support cage to travel into the cylinder.

I have managed to show the idea with a Cylindrical Joint but, of course, the blades do not flex and just cut through the cylinder.

I would be grateful if anyone can show me a solution to this or at least point me in the right direction.

Thanks. Andy K.

(flies attached)

Yes it is possible in Inventor Professional. Url for your help https://goo.gl/Bwz5FV .Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

You did not attach the parts 13 3-8in END RING.ipt and 13 3-8 PIPE.ipt here.

You should place all assembly files into a single folder.

Then right click on the folder and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Attach the resulting *.zip file here.

You cannot do this in Dynamic Simulation Environment, but you can do the animation just as you describe in the Inventor Studio Environment.

You would do this with a couple of Animate Parameters (Radius with constant Arc Length).

Or with Animate Parameter (as above) with an Animate Constraint (offset).

It might be a while till I can get to this one - so bump the thread if you don't see solution within a couple of days.

What you are attempting to do is an advance topic - typically someone trying to animate this would have enough experience that they are not likely to need a tutorial.

Just to be sure you understand - this Inventor Studio will animate the behavior, but will not return information on the forces like might be expected in Dynamic Simulation Environment.

@CaptainKirkx here is the animate parameters steps I used to squish your cage into the tube. I didn't really calculate anything, just eyeballed the times and distances, but if you put a bit more thought I'm sure you can get it more accurate. These are just the commands for quick representation. As @JDMather stated this is not a dynamic simulation and will produce no actual results. There might be more advanced methods to do this with transitional constraint driving the dimension or something fancy but with what you already had drawn this was an easy solution. On your original Single Blade part I changed the arc's from a radius dimension to a length dimension and made the OD the part to be driven so when it gets smaller the material stays the same length but collapses. Hope this helps.

Kelly,

Thanks for that one. Nicely presented. I'll go give it a go on the real cage (8 blades)!

It gets me what I need for presentation purposes, but I will still endeavour to find a way to do the dynamic simulation.

Thanks again for your time & help....

CaptainK.
