Hi all.

I have to draw a pipe line, but the in two different planes that are not perpendicular between them, they form an angle of 8 degrees.

Is it possible to draw a 3d sketch using angles instead of using X Y Z dimensions?. I'm thinking of something like polar coordinates in space, not being restricted to ortho planes.. This is because the original design we were given shows XYZ dimensions and also angles.

Thanks for any help!!!!

Yes this is possible. Without seeing exactly what you're trying to draw it's quite hard, but lets say you wanted to draw a line that's parallel to the XY plane but is 8° below the Z plane, then draw a construction line representing the Z plane thats constrained to the Z plane and do an angle constraint of 8° to the construction line.

Would it be possible for you to share your info so that i can create a screencast showing you what im on about?

Lewis

Ricardo,

Good morning! Just to clarify, and please see the image below for reference, is this what you are trying to draw: two lines at some angle to each other but not on any orthographic origin plane (or a plane parallel to one of those)? Just want to make sure that I'm understanding things correctly. Hope all is well and have a most blessed day!

Peace,

Yes Pete.

That is what I need. There are 3 segmants. The following segmant is also in a different plane with an angle of 22 degrees from the second angle.

Regards.

Ricardo,

Please see the following Screencast which lays out my steps to create the first line. This should allow you to create the other geometry that you need as well. However, if this isn't quite getting you what you need, you could use the UCS tool to create your own compound angle. I started with this method because the UCS tool can be a bit trickier to use until one gets a feel for it. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Hope all is well and have a most blessed day!

The easiest way to create an control a 3D sketch is by finding the projected intersection of 2 2D sketches, example, top and front views.

What version of Inventor are you using? 8? 2010? 2018?
