While looking at the flat pattern in model, you can create sketch and add length on both ends.

This way you'll have correct model and add any modification to flat pattern.

I'm working on a project where we are rolling a cylinder with many holes. In order to roll the sheet without warpage, we need to add material to one edge. As well, we need extra material on the ends to account for the flat sections caused by the rolling machine.

Currently I've drawn a shape showing what the pattern should be, but this will require the operator to modify the dxf. I was hoping for a way so that I can create a dxf from the flat pattern itself rather than adding sketches to the drawing.

I'm sure there's a better way, but the only way I can think of is to create two parts. One is the flat pattern created by the program, the other is a derived part created from the first. I then unfold and add material to the edges with the thicken command. Then on the drawing i reference the two different parts as though they are a pre-machine and a finish-machine.

I hadn't tried creating extrusions on the flat pattern before, this does create a correct part for the sheet to be cut. I'll just have to denote the actual length in the finished size as a parameter derived from the rolled part.

Thanks

You can start the sketch on a face on the flat pattern and project from the flat pattern.

You can then add say 3" on the ends. This way if the part change the extension will follow.

I use this to remove holes, add machine allowance on frame cut.

Attached IV2017 file.
